PostSubject: Kaiyodo Natural Monuments of Japan   Tue Jan 08, 2013 9:41 pm

I'm surprised no one has made a topic for these figures (unless I missed it, I really hope I didn't), as far as Kaiyodo animals go, this seems to be one of their most collected lines. I was able to get almost the whole set last spring, I think I was only short four figures plus the secret wolf, but sold quite a few of them to help cover their original cost. Here are the ones I kept.

Natural Monuments Birds 1:
Top Row (right to left) No.2 Crested Ibis, No.20 Okinawa Rail, No.25 Whooper Swan, No.27 Red Crowned Crane.
Bottom Row (right to left) No.28 Phoenix Rooster, No.18 Black Woodpecker, No.22 Oriental Stork, No.44 Bonin White Eye.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Natural Monuments Birds 2:
Top Row (right to left) No.4 Blakiston's Fish Owl, No.29 Golden Eagle, No.39 Short Tail Albatross
Bottom Row (right to left) No.6 Rock Ptarmigan, No.36 Hooded Crane, No.46 Steller's Sea Eagle, No.14 Lidth's Jay
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Natural Monuments Mammals:
Top Row (right to left) No.24 Racoon Dog, No.19 Ryukyu Flying Fox, No.23 Horse, No.15 Sika Deer.
Bottom Row (right to left) No.13 Akita, No.47 Dog, No.1 Iriomote Cat, No.17 Japanese Marten.

Again, sorry about photo quality.
Has anyone here managed to get the entire set? It'd be really neat to see them all together! Very Happy

I must say I love the way you presented these figures. It is fantastic when they are identified like you did. cheers
I don't have these lines but they are surely the best among Caiyodo. Many congratulations and thanks for sharing! Very Happy

This serie is really fantastic. Unfortunately I only have a few because prices are often fantastic too.

The Giant salamander, the Kishinoue's Giant Skink and many more are still on my wishlist.

Probably the best selection from my point of view because I am focused on birds and terrestrial mammals. Absolutely must-have ones for me. Shogakukan NMOJ is the fantastic set as most of the animal figures sculpted by Mr. Matsumura Shinobu. Congratulations and thanks for the photos Wink

I love these models. They are, unfortunately, too pricey for me. At least, I haven't been able to find the ones I most want -- the Ryukyu Flying Fox, the Marten, and the Skink -- for prices I can manage on eBay.

I'd be interested to know how much they cost to a local consumer when they first came out. If a Japanese consumer were collecting them when they were released, how much, in USD, would he or she pay? Anyone know?

This is no secret, all the regular items were sold for JPY 850 per item (incl. magazine), cca USD 10 :) The bonus ones were little more expensive.

I think they might have been around $10-$15 per figure/book set. The ones I got I paid around $300 for but them sold half to make that money back.
If you are looking for them still, you could try checking Yahoo Japan Auctions. Thats where I got mine.
