PostSubject: Woodland Diorama   Fri Feb 15, 2013 6:42 pm

I know I have been gone a while. While I was gone, I made 3 dioramas for the Mojo Fun diorama competition. I won the woodland diorama competition, as well as the farm diorama. Some of you have seen the photos on Facebook, but these are for those who did not. I hope you enjoy the photos. I had a wonderful time creating these dioramas. This one in particular was my very first one and one of my favorite ones to make. It was also a very big learning experience.

First will be pictures of the overall diorama.

Thanks so much everyone. I love reading your comments. I think this has to be my favorite diorama that I have made. It took the most time and I really enjoyed every bit of it, except when I didn't seal the foam good enough and the water ended up gluing the diorama to the tv tray I had it set on. Once I got it sawed off the tv tray, it was a whole lot better. I do have some photos of the progress and I will upload them to photobucket and post them when I get a chance. When I first started my daughter looked at me kind of funny and asked me what I was doing and when I told her I was making a mountain she didn't believe me. It soon started to take shape and she could see it as a mountain.

Thanks so much. Just lucky I guess on the water. I am in the process of uploading some pictures of the making of this diorama. It is taking a while so hopefully by later this week I will be able to do a thread on the making of the woodland diorama. So far only 3 of the photos have been uploaded and there are between 55-60 photos I am trying to upload on photobucket.

Thanks so much Sergey. I will show a few photos here of the process. It is such a slow process to upload them.

The mountain started as a couple of pieces of cardboard and a whole lot of wadded up paper and tape. This is where I was at when my daughter looked at me funny when I told her it was a mountain.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

By the time I got here, she could start to see a mountain. This is the above covered in plaster cloth.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here is the cave.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Started adding paint. I used apple barrel paint mixed with water 1:8 and 1:16.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Started painting where I wanted the water to go.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Started adding some greenery.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

More green and first layer of water.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Started adding little yellow flowers to the bushes.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And that is all for now. I will add more when they upload.

Sure Sergey. No problem. Here are some more photos that got uploaded.

Adding more green grass and foliage.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Working on the water. The water is made with Woodland Scenics Realistic Water and the rapids are made with Water Effects or white paint. I used both.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Adding the front piece using foam. Easy to cut and easy to push trees and plants into.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here are the last of the pictures.

Here I added a dirt path to the water.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here I added some purple flowers and a store bought nest, which I didn't like so I created my own.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Added some white flowers.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Homemade eagle nest made from grass roots and twigs.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

My water lilies I made.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here you can see the water still wet as I poured it.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here is a picture of the water coming down the mountain. I used scrapbook paper for the rocks and some actual little rocks.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hope you enjoy the rest of the photos. That is most of the pictures I took.

Extremely beautiful diorama!!! Real treat to the eye!
Where do you store it at your home?

P.S.: Why do you call those trees aspens? It seems to me they look more like birches.
