PostSubject: parrots/other birds in 1/32   Wed Feb 20, 2013 10:31 am

Hi,
i'm looking for parrots (cocatoo,s , Ara's for exapmle) im 1/32, eventually 1/30 or 1/35 are also welcome. Also other birds in the same scales. Can anyone give some advice: which manufacterers make or made these birds? I am looking for this because of my Zoo-diorama.

I would also try dollhouse manufactures and sellers--they have small birds made for dollhouses.

Sorry you are looking for bigger than dollhouse--getting my scales mixed up. scratch

In this [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] you can find some birds in 1:32 scale, I guess. Maybe not those you want but take a look. Very Happy
In vintage brands section of this forum, under Vintage brands catalogues, you can find some interesting information. Very Happy

Roger, not sure that these are 1:32nd scale. I am sure they are 70mm or 1:22nd scale. I could be wrong so welcome any correction here.

Britains made some birds in 1:32nd scale for their Floral Garden. These were sparrows and doves both in two different poses.

Chris, thanks for correcting! I have only few Hausser plastic figures, they are not much larger than Britains. Though, searching a little on EBAY, it is often refered the 70mm scale for human related series. Curious that the reference usually doesn't appear on animal figures but it only shows, as expected, that you are right. Also, in Toy Animal Wiki, it is written that Preiser used the 1:25 scale molds of Hausser what is the same of 70mm. Very Happy cheers Very Happy

Another correction here... Laughing
The birds in the Hausser Elastolin catalogue are from the 50mm series, so about 1:32, and the so called soft-plastic.
I mean the wild birds in this case.
In the farm series there are 2 scales(3000 and 4000 series), but not in all models as far as i know.
The peacocks, turkeys, mute swan and white stork seem to be in the 1:25 scale only(3000 series), which were made again in hollow plastic by Preiser again to.
The seperate series with 10 different birds were somewhat bigger then 1:32, and more in different scales.
And there are 2 king penguins in a very big scale for Hausser to( nrs. 4120 and 4121), they are the same hight as the Schleich penguins.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Here is the page of the 1972 catalogue with the big penguins.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This page is with the 50mm/1:32 scaled birds of prey.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This page shows the 70mm/1:25 scaled farmbirds.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This page is of the 1971 catalogue, and shows the wild birds in the 50mm/1:32 scale, you see the same penguins as before in the big scale.(about 1:22)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
And here are the wood birds in the 50mm/1:32 scale, pheasants, black grouses and caipercaillies.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This is the box in which the birds series were sold.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This is how the birds came in to me, still in bag with info card.

and Starlux has lots of birds in the 1:32 scale to indeed... Laughing

Those birds are even bigger than 1:22, they are at the old composition scale, more like modern companies' birds size Wink

The STARLUXparrots are zoo animals, not wild, and they are a bit bigger than 1:32 IMHO.

thanks for the photo! I spent quite some time at the site off Dollhouse: the bird on the photo is to big for 1:32. This polytelis barrabandii is in real life about 30 cm long. But: i could buy and repaint one, it would make a perfect Ara maracana for example.

Eh, Willy! Sometimes I prevent to see your collection because sometimes it is hard! Shocked
I love all these figures even most of them look ostriches when compared with the human figure, also the flamingo, a very good idea for a prehistoric bird. affraid
I love them all, the Australian pelican is even sillier than they look actually. Great brand, great design, fantastic collection! cheers

Thanks guys! Very Happy

Yes Rogerio, this pelican is from the older Starlux series, so it looks a little bit silly indeed, but i was happy to get him some years ago. cheers
The scale is more in the region of 1:24/25 then 1:32, but that doesn't matter.
I forgot that i have the rhea to, i didn't have a picture yet. Laughing

25mm scale is roughly 1/72. It means it is much smaller than 1/32. study
When a scale is presented in mm unite, it means that the figure fits with a human figure 25mm tall. Or 2,5 cm if you like best. Very Happy
1/32 scale is also known as 54mm scale. So figures fit with a 5,4 cm tall human figure. Very Happy

Thank you Willy - the three "new" penguin poses all look the same to me. So every time I see one I think "Is this the one I already have?" Laughing

Apologies Willy for this late reply. Most of the Britains animal figures I am looking for are the easy stuff made post 1971. Until now I haven’t bothered to buy them because I see them all the time at toy fairs! These include the polar bears, walrus etc.....

Laughing Rolling Eyes

Nicely done M?(we are used to put our name under the treads, so everybody here knows how to call you by name).
Did you use the AH WWF series macaws for these models, because this is the only one in this size... Laughing Rolling Eyes

The material i made the walls from is thick paper one can buy (in Holland and Germany at least) in shops where you can buy material for railroad-hobby. The round corner in the top is where i bend the paper: i bend it over/on thick paper and glued it on to each other. In this way, the wall has (in 1/32) the thickness of 1 stone.

The other Macaws i painted have different "housing" as you can see here (it is a Ara ararauna):

The Hyacinth Macaw is not ready, i will post a picture as soon as i finished it. The miniature Zoo i am building is an old-style Zoo, i think it is nostalgic. Maybe not like the Zoos we see nowadays, but thankfully the 1/32 animals don't complain...

The goal is to make a sort of "Parrotlane" with 3 of these Macawstandings on 1 side and on the other side of the lane 3 small avaries with other species of Parrots (i allready painted 1 African Grey for this). At the end of the lane one walks towards the housing i posted earlier (with the Militaris and Macao).
