| Subject: 100 species challenge - need your help! :) Tue May 07, 2013 11:25 am | |
| A while ago there was an art challenge going around DeviantArt called "100 species challenge". The aim was to draw a picture (in any technique) of each of the 100 animal species mentioned on a list - there were at least two variants of that list, each had a slightly different species. I've decided to create such list from scratch and fulfill the challenge according to this version. And this is the part where I'm asking you for help! I'd like to hear your suggestions of species I should draw. But I have a few requirements: - I want to focus on vertebrates. Therefore I'll divide the list into four equal parts, 25 species each. - Give your suggestions in this topic - English name (if it exists) of the species (or a subspecies if you chose so) as well as it's scientific name (usually deriving from Latin/Greek) in brackets -> "()" - this way it'll be much easier for me to find photos of the animal. - And please, try to make it as varied as possible - the greater variety, the better! EDIT: - Only existing species and historically extinct, no prehistoric ones, please. I'll edit the list gradually. If someone else would like to use this list to fulfill this challenge - go ahead! :) Fishes: 1. Sun fish (Mola mola) 2. Bignose unicornfish (Naso vlamingii) 3. Sea pony (Hippocampus fuscus) 4. As many as you want, but keep it reasonable - I hope no one will give me 100 species in one post XD I hope many users will participate :) _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |

| Hey, people! I still need 85 more species, and I'm waiting for your suggestions! If you already suggested some, you can suggest more if you want to! :) _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |

| I will suggest more but I really was expecting more contributions too. I think it is great from Magda to put a STS participation on her project. If anyones wants to suggest but doesn't know the species name I can easily edit posts and add the information. |

Chrysocyon brachyurus- Maned wolf Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep- Ovis canadensis Canadensis Dendrobates tinctorius- dyeing poison frog Hylobates lar- Lar gibbon Macropus rufogriseus- red-necked wallaby Note: I'm not entirely sure if those are completely correct scientific names for them, I got those from the internet so if someone can double check them that would be great. |

| Very interesting! However I think it's a pity the list not include molluscs, they are so colorful and interesting. My suggestion for a fish would be Macropinna microstoma - it's a crazy thing :) Mammal - Moon Bear - Ursus thibetanus Marsupial mammal - Goodfellow Tree Kangaroo - Dendrolagus goodfellowi Birds ( it's hard to choose only one)- Wall creeper- (Tichodroma muraria) and Bearded Tit (Panurus biarmicus) and maybe one more, just more exotic- Atlantic royal flycatcher (Onychorhynchus swainsoni) Amphibian - Cave salamander (Proteus anguinus) It's nice play, can't wait to see your drawings Magda _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| Thanks everyone! cattlecollector - since you gave only a genus names for Kookaburra and Garter snake, I chose the exact species myself :) Ana - maybe I'll draw some non-vertebrates after I complete this list I'll start drawing as soon as the list is complete, and I'll be posting finished drawings here. Only 3 slots for mammals are left - I'll write there the next first 3 mammal species, keep that in mind, please. _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |

| You have no primates on this list, if you want one then maybe draw Silky sifaka ( Propithecus candidus)? And I think at least one owl would be necessary, for example: Sulawesi golden owl (Tyto inexspectata) And penguins, they are so lovely, maybe Adélie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae)plus something very adorable: Andean cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruvianus)also, maybe something like King Eider (Somateria spectabilis, praktejder) Two more fish: Rabbitfish (Chimaera monstrosa) and Lookdown ( Selene vomer) Something from reptiles: Abronia (Abronia graminea) Alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) Galapagos marine iguana (Amblyrhynchus cristatus) OK I write quite too many probably I hope others will make suggestions too _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection
