PostSubject: Less Posted K&M Figures   Fri Jun 21, 2013 10:00 pm

Hey again!
I have some miniature K&M animals in my collection that I haven't seen posted a lot, anyone recognize these ones?

1997 ostrich - I've seen a different K&M ostrich (with a base) posted before
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A 1997 ring tailed lemur (once again, I've seen another ring-tailed lemur by K&M in a different pose) - here, with the howler monkey from the "Animal Record Breakers tube"
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A (slightly worn) red fox that with a nice, smooth paint job that included several different shades of red
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It's much snazzier that the fox from Safari's forest tube
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here is a thomson's gazelle (with an unfortunate broken horn)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

An elegant-looking puma
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A red panda - another exquisitely painted figure
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

An excellent wolf, who is tragically missing a hind leg!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Next to another of Wild Republic's wolves
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A Bighorn Sheep
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A day gecko - this one its really small, and one of my absolute favorites. Unfortunately, it has lost some paint...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A grey-brown? and rather scrawny lion...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It is much smaller (and less ferocious) than the lion from the big cats tube.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A water monitor! Another favorite of mine...The pose reminds me of a mammal, not a lizard
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A harbor seal
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A California sea lion (I love pinnipeds)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A very majestic-looking elk...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It is somewhat higher, shorter, and burlier that the Playvisions elk
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And an adorable-looking sea otter (comes with a free sea-star!). The pose is great...

I find it also very interesting, my Wild Republic fox and gazelle are different from those here presented. I need this fox. Very Happy Although they're nice, no doubts that PV is the best making toob sized animals. These elks...

I have a couple of that osprey and both are marked as Playvisions (1998)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also my mistake, the wolf with the broken leg was marked as Playvisions too, not K&M

The giraffe looks awesome. I have not seen very many well-done miniature giraffes like this one, just lots of cheap ones from dollar-store safari bags

The K&M elk I posted is available as a gift, for someone in the U.S. who can help me out with an order from veghead.com. See my topic in Trades, Sales & Gifts!

Taos, I was wondering if the animals you've posted for Yellowstone set might be the ones from the Play Visions yellowstone set?
I haven't found out yet the single items of this set (know so far bison, elk, moose, beaver. So the rest could be the same as in other sets, like badger, wolf, grizzly and osprey?)

I have truly no idea if you still need this information, but I did some K&M research thanks to Roger Laughing, so I know from most of your figurines where they come from Wink

K&M figurines:
Your ostrich, gazelle and lion come from the 53135 Serengeti Bulk.
Your ring-tailed lemur comes from the 53133 Endangered Animals Bulk (but could be from the Primates Tube as well).
Your cougar, bighorn and elk come from the 53129 North American Bulk.
Your California sea lion and sea otter are from the 53108 Pacific Ocean Bulk.
Your red panda and water monitor are from the 53076 Asian Animals Bulk.
I think your day gecko is from the 53035 Endangered Reptiles Bulk.

The wolf is, as you already noted, Play Visions, not K&M.

I don't know about the red fox and the harbor seal. I would love to know what the red fox is, for I own it as well, but I have no clue where it comes from scratch

Phrog has not visited the forum for almost one year, though, this information is always useful once there is always someone interested in finding information about these figures. Also, we never know if Phrog keeps visiting as a ghest or will ever be back here. Very Happy
You don't need to thank anything to Roger, the research you're doing in a very competent way, is a huge contribution to STS, TAI and collectors in general. I am sure we'll find some old K&M figures that nobody heard before about them. cheers

There's still so much to be discovered Very Happy I really hope we'll find something about the big solid figurines, such as my red wolf. For now, it will stay a big mistery Suspect

I love misteries and also to see the Queen of the small figures so interested in large figures. Actually, if we ever find it, it will be a bomb! bom Laughing
I suspect TGF Toys sold them but the shop doesn't exists anymore. If anyone keeps the contact, maybe we can ask. Very Happy

There's still so much to be discovered Very Happy I really hope we'll find something about the big solid figurines, such as my red wolf. For now, it will stay a big mistery Suspect

I remember the red wolf, although I never had it. I want to say that it came out in about 1998, maybe 1999, the same year that they made a Naked Mole Rat (!) that I also never got Sad

That was back in the true K&M International days, when they made their own models (instead of the current trend of re-using Nayab and FUL figures (basically, dollar-store level figures) and repackaging them with their labels.

They also made better tubes. Like the original endangered animals tube that also included a couple of red wolves as well:

I don't even know for sure that I still have these... They were...less polished back then. But there was a lot more innovation.

I'm a lucky owner of the adult red wolf (which you can find [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]). There's no year on it, unfortunately. I do remember reading a story on a blog about this naked mole rat. I'd love to have it, or even see some good pictures of it, but there isn't much information about it.

I think this is the one (not my picture):

With the next information:

Quote :
I talked to Wendy at K&M Toys, and she told me they do indeed make rubber naked mole rats! Sadly, she could not sell them to individuals, and she could not tell me which specific stores have ordered them.

But this was written in a blog for over 10 years ago, so I don't think they're still in production - such as the other large solid animals by K&M.

I only saw it in catalogs. I am disappointed that I didn't place an order for it--I don't remember ever seeing it for sale online or in any stores. K&M was always funny that way.

About the large solide figures those I could find information are listed (url=http://toyanimal.info//index.php?title=Wild_Republic_Large_Animal_Figures]here![/url]
We have pictures of some of them on forum but we need pictures to put on Toy Animal Wiki.
I am really excited about the fennec fox, I have red about it but picture was not visible. Sad bounce
I believe that this is a collection with much more figures than we think. By the way Beatrice, it could be nice if you provided some pictures to the Wiki. Almost nobody has these figures and these pages will keep empty for a long time. I also want to ask you if the penguin that you have is marked with scientific name and if it is a humboldt penguin or one of its "brothers"?
I think also that we have to split first the large K&M/Wild Republic figures in 4 groups. The solide heavy ones, the rubber ones like the current octopus, the hollow ones that we see in polybags and the articulated from sets. I know that it is even more complex but we have to start it in a simple way. Very Happy

No, I don't have the catalogs--I used to go through them at some local stores back in the late 90s. The main K&M store where I would order things closed in 1999. My other main toys tore from back in the day purged all of his catalogs years ago.

Such a pity, I would love to see some of the older K&M catalogues; I'm sure there are lots of interesting things to find in them! But thanks anyway Wink
