Gorgeous models everyone has! The AAA stood-square one has long been a favourite with me, although the loose gait of the Safari one is growing on me as well. The small Jeol fellow is a jewel. And the two repaints NandO has done! They've got character to spare.

Love your big clan of hyenas Susanne! Especially those Bullylands! They have such character!Very Happy

Jarda, I really like your little Joel "B" hyena too! He has a nice pose. Are Joels super rare? I don't know anything about this brand.

Jeols (not Joels) are rare figures from Britains era, in Britains (1:32) scale and sometimes offered together with Britains animals:

Not all Jeols are "super rare", see this thread but Jeols generally are not very common:

Just before christmas I got the most stunning parcels from Roger ! santa
One of the surprises was a little, absolutely beautyful hyenea Very Happy
He is marked MADE IN CHINA, and is yet another proof that these models can be excellent  cheers

His first introduction to my collection was not very lucky, though.
John , the Zoo-keeper is a very kind man, but he is best with animals who like carrots  geek  Laughing
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The encounter with the Schleich hyena was a little better, but the old gal is a bit timid  scratch
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

So as soon as I had taken some photoes of my new beauty, I let him loose on my new small-model-shelves, and as you can see,
he is very happy here ! The old lineol-hyena even came over to share his steak with him  cheers  cheers

And at last some of the pictures from the photo-session Wink

"THE NINE PRODUCTS" is a tradmark from a a company from Malaysia called Daisheng. So, the brand of that hyena is "THE NINE PRODUCTS" as Jarda correctly pointed. Very Happy

Yvette was so enormously kind as to get some old composition models for me on Ebay.
One is this wonderful, charming striped hyena, - isn't she adorable ?  cheers
She feels and looks like she is made from sawdust over a metal frame. Does anybody know about the barnd, and perhaps the age ? Very Happy

How have I missed this thread? I have so many, I need to get them here. Soon... Laughing

And now I start! I begin by cribbing from a different forum because I am efficient, not lazy. It is, however, from 2010, so fortunately I have additions!

One note--I won't say the species unless it is unique. In other words, they are almost always Striped or Spotted hyenas. Only the Schleich mini could be reasonable construed as a brown hyena, and nobody makes an aardwolf. However, if anyone can definitively prove otherwise I will be grateful--if they can prove it by adding them to my collection, I will be ridiculously happy and grateful.

First, big ones (again, up to March 2010):

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Top row: Wild Safari, Papo, Dosco, Chap Mei, AAA
Middle row: Lineol (Elastolin? Taylor & Barrett), AAA, Schleich (newer one), Schleich (older one), Ricolino (Mexican candy company), Bullyland
Bottom row: Jakk/Discovery Kids/Scanopedia, Unknown, Ral Partha Chasmaporthetes, Timpo, Ral Partha Giant Hyena (Pachycrocuta?), Ral Partha, Bandai (standing & sitting), Schleich mini Brown Hyena (darker version), Play Visions, Starlux, K&M International, Aussini, Panini, Schleich mini Brown hyena (lighter version, with some paint highlights).

Here is a second picture, zooming in on the smaller ones at the front (no idea why it turned blue):
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And some other, not so much toy ones:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A porcelain one from Germany, a malachite one, a blown glass one (my first ebay win!), and a family of wooden ones made by Jalu Wood Creations (yeah, they're supposed to be toys, but not for $32!). Somewhere I have one carved from a Tagua Nut, but I have no photo.

And then the later comers:

Customized chasmporthetes:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Later Schleich models with earlier attempts (again, reused. Again, I am efficient):
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The Marolin gnawing hyena:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The CollectA:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The Mojo:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Animal Planet micro series:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Wizards of the Coast D&D figure:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And just to highlight this fun one, from Mexican candy company Riccolino, on its base (it's in the group picture):

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I think that's it, other than a few plush toys.

Oh Sbell, this topic is not the same anymore. Your famous hyena collection needed to be here and now we're lucky of having your precious contribution! cheers  Thanks! Very Happy

Thanks for having it! It's the most complete record of them all anywhere right now. Although I did miss one--the Playmobil!

And I still need to get a photo of my tagua carving.

And a question for all--on the toy animal wiki there are claims of a brown hyena by CBG Minot. Does anyone have one, or a source? Or even confirmation that it is a brown (it doesn't look like one to me--the Elastolin? one looks closer)?

And some other, not so much toy ones:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A porcelain one from Germany, a malachite one, a blown glass one (my first ebay win!), and a family of wooden ones made by Jalu Wood Creations (yeah, they're supposed to be toys, but not for $32!). Somewhere I have one carved from a Tagua Nut, but I have no photo.

And then the later comers:

Customized chasmporthetes:

Later Schleich models with earlier attempts (again, reused. Again, I am efficient):

Animal Planet micro series:

And just to highlight this fun one, from Mexican candy company Riccolino, on its base (it's in the group picture):

I think that's it, other than a few plush toys.
A beautiful collection of hyenas,  congratulations!  Have you more informations about the Riccolino stuff?  What are the other animals?

The only other Ricolino (I messed up the spelling) I know of is a lion (which I have no interest in)--if you get the whole set, they fit together to form a map of Africa, and as you turn a wheel they all turn with it (the rod is attached to a gear). I can try and find the paper I got with it, but I have never seen another figure from the set, although I recall a friend that found one from a different set, I want to say a koala or saltwater croc or something.

I'm very happy your collection joined the hyena's SUY, is is a much more serious topic now cheers

About the Brown hyena, CBG mignot made a lead hyena called "hyena", She is not striped, not spotted and she is brown... Laughing  So we could say it is a brown hyena.

I agree she looks a little bit like a spotted unspotted hyena Wink

Here is an old pic because I am trying to be more efficient now

It look almost jackal-ish, but then, that's not uncommon for many early hyena toys (which tried to play up the dig-like appearance).

Are they still available? Or at least find-able?
