I'm VERY disappointed with Winners Circle - there's not even one new mould! Only colour variants :/ I know there will be people happy with them, but I'm a "mould" person, not a "colour variant" person...

I love IC hedgehog and piglet! Simply adorable!

I also love WOW Anhinga, it's sculpture looks amazing.
But the raven could be a lot better - those feathers look more like scales (IC Screech owl also had these - that's the only reason I didn't buy it)...

And I absolutely ADORE [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]! He's cute, though I haven't heard of six-legged Eastern dragon (who knows, maybe there's such dragon in Eastern mythology). I'm buying him for sure!

Generally, I'm not impressed, lots of recolours, most of new moulds is just "meh" for me - Safari can do better, I think. Or maybe it's just me getting very choosy and grumpy Laughing

Wow thanks for sharing these! I love when we get to see the next years releases from the brand--exciting. I agree with Anna that the rhino is kinda weird looking--it may be its facial expression--but I like his running stance. The hippo is a long awaited surprise. Much better color however still another hippo with his mouth wide open. I like the Mojo one because its mouth is not open. I like the chimp minis. Safari seems to be creating species that are not well known, which is good.

The Rhino got a smiling face, perhaps can fine tune it. Looking forward for Hippo!

Thank you for sharing cheers

As a horse person, I'm not impressed, and one is just a repaint of the palomino, which I think has better colour design already.

Neverteless, looks good for the wildlife cat

And an Ikarus figurine - nice Wink

So, now that I have had some time to look at things some more, I realize that a few of the figures are copies. All of this is just my opinion, and I understand that they can save money etc by reusing figures, but really? half of their "regular" sized range is just repaints and smaller versions of things. As mentioned before, I will probably get the brahma because I missed it the first time it was out, the rhino isn't a total copy of the WW one but there are only minor differences and yes, it looks funny to me too. I won't get the pandas since I have seen better, the hippo I actually like even if it is a copy since their older one was well... old. I don't usually collect their horses (due to every collector has to pick and choose their battles etc) but I am disappointed that they were so lazy and did not come out with a single new mold this year. I do like their releases overall, I just wish that they could try to be a little more creative... :)

These are the ones that I'll surely buy:

688904 Cryptozoology Designer Toob
687804 Cave Dwellers Toob
688104 Deep Sea Creatures Toob
688804 Seashells Toob
302729 Pachyrhinosaurus
302929 Suchomimus
303429 Ammonite
180629 Peccary
180729 Gila Monster
180929 White Buffalo
150129 Anhinga
150829 Raven

And a few comments on 2014 Safari Ltd. line:

In general, I like the 2014 line most of the 2013 one.
As already mentioned, there are very common animals along with some surprise.
The Carnegie Tyrannosaurus is definitely one of the best currently available (excluding Japan ones, of course Cool), but I don't really like it... the tail looks too thin and short, and the legs have a columnar shape. And then, why no feathers?! Shocked
I really like the other prehistoric animals, especially Suchomimus and Ammonite, but I don't understand the choice of Megalodon... it looks exactly the same as a normal Great White Shark, and it's not even the best that Safari released.
The WW Black Wolf is a real disappointment. Why spoil a beautiful line with a repaint? I find it a bit a punch in the eye of the line. Safari is a bit too far with white/black repaints, middle of the last year line were re-painted animals!
Wild animals don't impress me. A few releases as usual in recent years, and this time are really well-known species. The Black Rhino looks really weird, I don't like it at all. Hippo and Pandas are cute, even if they are equal to WW ones. I've never really excited when I see released so common species, there are already so many good of them out there and I don't see need to release others.
Marine animals are good, even if Bowhead Whale will have a great rival in CollectA one. Pilot Whale is pretty, but CollectA one beat it.
The American animals are a great surprise, I love them. Also the White Buffalo is on my wish list, it's very cheering that he's a resculpt and not a repaint. Very Happy
Even the birds are great.
Now, the part that I enjoy most every year are the toobs. This year they are very interesting: the abyssal creatures are magnificent, and also the cave animals. I didn't understand, however, why they are colored in that strange way... or is it their true color? Suspect The cryptozoology creatures disappointed me a lot. There were so many beautiful creatures that they could have chosen, as the Chupacabras, marmaids, Montauk's Monster and many others, and instead chose two clearly fake animals, two almost equal to each other, one existing animal and the others are not very beautiful. The Kraken is really bad, I would have preferred a small copy of their Giant Squid. The only one that I really like is the coelacanth, that is not a cryptid creature.
In any case, I tried to explain in particular the negative aspects, but I'm very happy with this line. Wink
cheers

Am i the only one uber-excited about the Jackalope in the crypto toob? Whoo hoo! And before anyone wonders whether they are cryptids: they were, but obviously turned out to be a hoax.

Creature living deep in caves live in complete darkness, so they don't need colours, as they wouldn't see them anyway - that's why they usually have no (or very tiny) eyes and no (or veeery little) pigment e:)I think it's also a way of saving energy which isn't wasted on production of unnecessary pigment.

I have a mostly same criticisms and compliments that others have already made (more effectively) above. As Paige and Sommo have pointed out, it's really too bad they are recycling some of the same sculpts. That's pretty uninspired to those of us who are collectors. I also agree that the Megalodon seems like a waste. (Unless it's the length of my arm...but even then.) I'll get the Dachshund, since they are my favorite dogs, but it is not wowing me. I would have loved to have seen a really impressive dachshund. So that's a missed opportunity. The Rhino is just weird and the Panda and Hippo leave me cold.

Things I like: As I already mentioned, I love the Carnegie Tyrannosaurus.

The birds are great. I like both the Raven and the Anhinga especially. The Peccary and the White Buffalo are really lovely. (I'd almost prefer they paint the Buffalo normally as well, but the white version looks great.) Although the Wild Safari Dinosaurs aren't blowing me away (I really loved the Gryposaurus and Dimorphodon from this year), they look good. And that's about it for me.

As Yvette and Anna wrote above, it seems like the Anhinga and the Peccary are the best. So for me, I will get the Anhinga, Raven, Peccary, Buffalo, and Tyrannosaurus, for sure. I am very excited about those models!

The "smaller wildlife wonders" panda is still the best panda sculpt around. Peccary and piranha might be great. The sealife creatures and the gila look cheap. Medieval raven sculpt looks like made of stone. The toobs are great! i LOVe the mosquito life cycle, the cave dwellers are a must-have, same with the bigfoot club and the deep sea creatures. The finch is a good one as well.

I bet they probably made a Megalodon because of the popular TV series on Discovery Channel "Shark Week" this past summer. They had a special on Megalodon, and yes it is basically a HUGE great white. I hope they made it a larger model at the very least. Otherwise, it was a tiny bit of a wasted effort.

They apparently made it by request, regardless of the Discovery Channel special. At least that's my understanding.

Only the bowhead whale, thresher shark, and gila monster all look like something I'd get. I'm disappointed with the pilot whale and "dolphin". What's up with the pilot whale's upper jaw and melon?! (the part of the head that sticks out) Suspect I know it's shorter than the lower jaw but Safari's looks as if it ran into something.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The body doesn't look anything like a pilot whale's either, it looks like he has no definition to it [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

What species is the new dolphin? As I said in my previous post, it doesn't look like a bottlenose dolphin, but either a spinner dolphin or a rough-toothed dolphin:

I apologize for all the pictures, just trying to point out what disappoints me with the pilot whale and "dolphin".  I'll have to see pictures of the actual figures before I make my decision on them.

Hooray for the first pictures of 2014! It is my favourite time of year, and the only time I seem to post, haha. Safari always seems to have a good variety of figures, but there aren't that many fantasy creatures this year.
I must admit that I am only charmed by the Wyvern and the Good Luck Dragon. They are both wonderfully sculpted, and for everyone wondering what the Good Luck Dragon is based on, I am sure it must be the Luck Dragon Falcor from the NeverEnding Story!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Also depending on the scale, I will probably buy the dachshund as it is the same type of dog I grew up with.I love you Looking forward to seeing these models in stores!

I'm thinking that's what it is, it looks nothing like a bottlenose dolphin. I wonder why Safari didn't say what species it is?

Safari revisits his animals and does so beautifully. The European hedgehog makes me think that Safari starts to propose the European fauna.

After the pics... My two cents Wink

I'm very pleased like most of us (all ?) with the Anhinga, Peccary and Gila monster of course Applause

I think I will jump on the deep sea creatures toob and I am very happy to see the new Thresher shark, IMHO it is better than the previous one.

The raven and Gouldian finch are very interesting too.

About the black rhino, I like very much the dynamic pose, i can't tell about the smiling face because I will need more pics to have an idea. The bad point for me is more the legs than the head, they are really thick Shocked

About the new Hippo and Giant panda, I'm VERY pleased to see some smaller copies of the WW models. I often read Collectors complaining that WW are excellent but too big and I think SAFARI Ltd listened to us. The WW giant panda is still one of my favorite panda with some Japanese models and the WW hippo is a fantastic piece drunken  I wish their bonzais will be excellent too Very Happy

Very agreed with you Christophe. I will add the raven on the first 'like' list and also the deep cave toob too.

I like the crow or Raven and the panda maybe quite nice, if it looks like the WW one.

I think that I even wrote here a while ago that I'd love to see a smaller version of WW panda :) I don't collect wildlife anymore (otherwise I'd buy it for sure!) but I'm happy to see this model!

I also wanted to point out that the pilot whale doesn't have the "markings" that an actual pilot whale has:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Notice the white stripes just behind the eye that extends to the dorsal fin. Also notice the white patch behind the dorsal fin. I'm aware that there are two species of pilot whale, the long-finned and short finned. Like CollectA's, Safari's seems to be a short finned and both species have the markings, but they vary from individual to individual. CollectA's does have the marking I'm talking ahout:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I think the overall color of Safari's should be a darker color, more like a gray-black. I'm hoping the figure will get modified before it gets released.

I agree with you Orcagirl. Safari Ltd is often a "precise" company and we could expect a better painted (at least) Pilot whale and more informations about the dolphin and the hedgehog for example scratch

Hi guys! I must say: I'm excited about nest year's line. Safari was, once, my favorite brand, but for 2, 3 years I've been purchasing fewer and fewer of its models. Next year will be different: three toobs seashells, cave dwellers (an Olm!!!!!!!!!! That's superb) and the deep sea creatures, the mosquito (yes, I collect insects Smile ), the peccary and the gila monster (two species I desire for a long time), the jellyfish (is so cute!) and, of course, the anhinga.
I'm quite pleased.

Many cheers for the anhinga!!! The first one ever on the market, isn't it? (not counting Japanese brands, I mean).

I agree about their ocean figures looking a little odd. The bow head just has something that tells me it looks weird, though I can't pinpoint it yet. And the Dolphin species is driving me nuts! I do not think it can be a bottlenose, it has to be spinner in my opinion.

PECCARY! PECCA-PECCA-PECCARY-RY-RY!
Whooooo (wait for it) HOO!
*does a happy peccary dance*
Seriously, though, I have wanted and wanted a peccary ever since I saw one at the zoo way back in like, the 80's. One of my all time most favorite animals, and, once again, BAM! Safari Ltd delivers!
And a Megalodon! And that superb finch! And the European hedgehog! And the black wolf! All fantstic models. Yup. I'm gonna go broke this year, but it'll be so worth it! I've had a lot going on in my life lately, as has anyone who's been watching the news lately, but this made my night! I hope I can get everything straightened out in my personal life soon, and get back to collecting again.

I still say it's a spinner dolphin, if it's a bottlenose I really don't know what to think about it. I just don't know why they never mention a species, it just says "dolphin" scratch

Thanks so much Takama! The only toob for 2014 I think I'll be getting is the deep sea life set and maybe the cryptozoology toob for my prehistoric collections (Loch ness,Coelocanth) and that furry fish? scratch for either of my fish collections.

I am sorta disappointed with the prehistoric items for this year.Only large animals which I don't like too much. Sad The only satisfying toob is perhaps the deep sea toob.

Yes, I have a similar question QuollMate, does anyone know what the furry looking white fish in the Cryptids toob is?

Ah, that'd be the legendary "furred trout" from the American north, if
memory serves. Unlike the giant squid and the coelocanth, the "furred trout" has never bern proven or caught...yet.

PostSubject: Disappointed with Safari Ltd 2014 at all?    Fri Oct 18, 2013 8:38 pm

I am somewhat disappointed, but I think it is more me than the company itself.Safari's figures for the following year look good, but I am disappointed because they haven't really made any figures within my region.Meaning, not a lot of interesting things for my collections.I collect prehistoric, birds, and sea life.I might only buy the sea she'll toob for decorative purposes on my coral reef, and I will also buy the deep sea toob.I have taken he cryptids toob into consideration because it contains a Loch Ness and coelocanth which I could use for my prehistoric collection. As for birds,if the wings of the world and that new colorful finch are small enough,I will add those to my birds collection. If anyone can provide me with sizes of the new birds,I will be grateful.I have also taken collecting the Wings of the World series into consideration, most of their birds are small enough. If anyone could provide me photos of the WotW complete series,I would like that as well.I want to collect some of their smaller birds.

Emma, honestly and although you explain, I can't understand why you're disappointed with Safari 2014 line. Of course I respect your oppinion and you are the only person that knows your real wishes and expectations.
So see! Prehistorics you have the Carnegie T-Rex, Evolution of Man, Monolophosaurus, Pachyrhinosaurus, Suchomimus, Megalodon and Ammonite.
From sea life and fishes the deep sea, Cave Dwellers, Seashells and Cryptozoology toobs, IC piranha and the two prehistoric sea animals previously listed, the Dolphin, thresher shark, jellyfish , bowhead whale and pilot whale,
Birds you have IC gouldian finch, anhinga and raven and all of this not counting with good luck minis.
I doubt any other brand will give you as much as Safari is. scratch Very Happy
Of course Incredible Creatures are large figures, they use to be. So Piranha and finch will be surely large for you.
About pictures of the wonderful WOW series from Safari you have the following link of Toy Animal Enclyclopedia
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and a fantastic topic, also with Susanne's pictures about the line.
