If you mean the only two figures, Toy Animal Wiki shows a few more. I have myself more than two of them. If it is only considering the major brands, that's right. 1. Schleich, 2. Bullyland and let's hope it don't last so long to see [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], maybe Mojö Fun could be a good guess.
I never recogniced that, thank you There is small scale 5 pcs Mertens wisent set and I believe Heinerle/Manurba made some wisents too... :) |

I'm glad to see Kiki and @Duck-Anch-Amun think "Animal" is suggestive enough to work as "Identified as" without the need of using the latter one. On the given example of the former CollectA deer, the use of the link to the "marketed as" field was not my personal choice. I find it confusing too. It was decided to include the link after a forum discussion because "Red deer" is the page a collector would look for it. I like the 3 points Blaine mentions and they show what I mean and I think the "marketed as" is enough to cover all 3. Though, I insist we should use whether "marketed as" or "marked" according to the way we obtain the information. Basically it is the same field, we don't need to use both. Often we don't know how a figure is marketed and it is important to know the information was obtained because the figure is marked like that. Rarely, some figures are also marketed differently from what they are marked. The famous Nayab Maned Wolf (extralarge) shows the difference, I think telling it is marketed as a (Myers Asparagus) is quite inaccurate, though, it is interesting and important to help identifying the model to mention it is marked "Myers Asparagus". For Blaine's example #1 we have the Papo King cobra. It is marketed as a "King cobra" and the hood shape marking correspond to an Indian cobra. So, it is identified as an Indian cobra. Animal: Indian cobra Marketed as: King cobra This is enough to me in terms of fields, . A note should be added. For Blaine's #2: We have Papo (current) Fox. It is just marketed as a "Fox" Though, it is unequivocally a red fox. Our identification is not because Papo is an European company. The model is unambiguous and despite the fact the name fox is generic, we also know that in this hobby, when a figure is just marketed as a fox, it is much likely a red fox. It is one of the reasons why I've been suggesting for a long time that we should identify a model to a very comon species level when it is applicable and there's no evidences it is not the commonest species. Fox to red fox, Hedgehog to common hedgehog, hippopotamus to common hippopotamus, zebra to plains zebra, etc. Animal: Red fox Marketed: Fox It is enough to me, no note needed. For Blaine's #3. We have the Papo ladybird. Ladybird is the common name for family Coccinellidae, thus, it covers multiple species. As it is red with 7 spots and Papo is an European brand, it is relatively evident it is a Seven-spot ladybird which is the commonest species at least in Europe. Animal: Seven-spot ladybird Marketed as: Ladybird It is again enough for me. A little note might help. I would like to add a 4th issue. It is when the figure is not marked and we have no idea how it was marketed. Nayab set of 36 assorted small wild animals is a very good example. The page starts with an aardvark, there's no doubts about the species even if it is not known how it is marketed. Though, there's also the Jaguarundi, it is surely a very optimistic identification, I accept it and it might support Roger's idea of using the field "Marketed as" "unknown" to suggest to a visitor it is clearly a community identification. I know this figure was sold on Wild Republic Wildepedia set for their North American animals. Are you sure it was supposed to be sold as a jaguarundi? Much likely it intended to represent a black jaguar. However, let me show you how the same solution results so different for two figures of the same set. Animal: Aardvark Marketed as: Unknown Animal: Jaguarundi Marketed as: Unknown Both are fine to me but this mention sounds quite useless for the aardvark figure but I also don't know where is the border between an easily identifiable figure and a very ambiguous figure. If it serves to keep consistency, it is fine. When we know how a figure is marked but we don't know how it was marketed and I know it sounds the same to most of you, we should use "Marked" instead. It is just my opinion. Let's take the example of the XL Nayab genet. Animal: Common gennet Marked: Viverricula indica This is the scientific name of the Small Indian civet. Actually, during my editing job, I've been considering these aspects. I've used as always as it was possible, the marketed name for the name of the page. It allows someone finding it easily when Googling. It also tells how it is marketed even if it is not clear at first. I've been adding notes, sometimes whether using wiki code or not, when something is ambiguous. i also have used often on series page introductory text, mentions when the identifications are conjectural or community based. For set pages, not necesarily to each individual figure. Concluding, I find the "Marketed as" a useful field as long as it is not mandatory because it is useless for many figures. Though, I don't think @Tiermann suggestion to change the guidelines is the most adjusted. I would prefer to keep Animal as it is now, with our identifications and linking to the corresponding animal page. The "Marketed as" as a complement to the Animal field when needed and without any link. Explaining text is always useful but the function of these fields should be to reduce the needing of extra text. Though, it is sometimes unavoidable. I don't think we need additional text (note) to explain why we identify a red fox which is marketed as a fox. Though, it might be important to the king cobra being identified as an Indian cobra or the ladybird as a 7-spot one. |

Hello Everyone, I was wondering why there isn't more about the Greenbrier animal figures on here? Is it because some of their models are knock-offs of other companies? I think that the arctic fox is at least an original model, do you agree? Despite being a Dollar Tree brand the figures are (in my opinion) somewhat unique, so why has no one covered this company? Have I missed something perhaps? Are all the figures (fox included) knock-offs? I am just curious why these haven't been covered more. NAYAB has been always a controversial brand. From knock-offs to what we suppose to be their original designs, this brand is often found in discussions on forum. It is also believed Nayab produce figures to other brands, a good example is the Wild Republic Polybags. I am skeptical about everything related with Nayab. The Realistic Animal series are known for a long time as Delprado models, I was told with official confirmation that the animal themed sets, like the wild dogs, deers, etc. are from a manufacturer called Toy-Mate, etc., etc. Whatever they are, they will always be known as Nayab among us.It is also hard to tell how many anteaters were released. I have these two, a large and a small. There is also an Extralarge but I am not sure a mini exists. These models were probably released during the first years of this century, here are both together, important to notice that the larger figure is hollow. Actually, it was one of my first anteater figures, a gift from a very kind member, inactive for a long time, which username is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]Large model is 12 cm long, quite compatible with major brands. The small model is 7 cm long, the same size as some 1:32 scale vintage figures. Here a comparison with the Hong Kong [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] model and the Hausser Elastolin 54mm figure. I am convinced the Hong Kong figure is more recent than the other mould presented as [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], maybe from 1980's, so I'd say it is a predecessor of the Nayab small model. |

Hong Kong marked animals ploriferated during 1970's. Often inspired in models from known brands. It is not easy to tell what they are in fact, this kind of figures are regularly debated onf forum but it is not easy to sort them in brands or manufacturers. So, we just know them as Hong Kong figures. I have these three, if anyone knows anything about these figures, please let me know. They're small figures, originally made to fit with 1:32 scale models. I don't have their brothers from Playspaces Prior or RAE. First two figures are color variations of the same sculpt or at least almost identical. 3rd figure is a different model. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is not marked, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is marked HONG KONG and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is marked MADE IN HONG KNO Interesting is also their difference of weight, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] weighs 4g, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] weighs 5g and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] weighs 7g. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is a larger figure so it is natural but interesting to find difference in weights between [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] what shows that they're made with materials of different density. About their sizes, First models are 69 mm long while the last model is 73 mm long. It means the third model is the same size of the Hausser, so Roger, you can use all of these as 1:32 scale. Apparently only Britains didn't use extreme lengths to represent this animal. It is also weird how these figures were painted. If the first two follow a similar layout, the larger model is almost painted like a ratel. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.] Sure the Britains is the most realistic among all of these for the reasons Roger pointed, namely the knuckling front paws that are often uncorrectly represented but proportions are also better on Britains model. For example, the Elastolin figure has a very long body for such a discreet tail. It is good to remember that these animals cover their body with their tails when sleeping, something the Hausser can't do. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.] Here a comparison of the Hong Kong [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] model with the Britains. Thanks guys, I think the mystery combined with the nostalgia is why they are so fun for me to look for! Even though I don't think they are actually particularly "rare" (I've been able to almost complete both sets in a couple months after all). I think they just aren't recognized/well known/of much interest to most people. I looked back on this thread and realized WhiteLightning Wolf said that not only did she get the complete set of cats together with their minis, but she still has the complete set (pictured there), confirming the Birman is indeed in the set and the yellow Farm Cat is not. So another mystery solved! Sort of, though I wonder if any of those yellow Farm Cats were ever made. It does look like her #3 is much darker than any of mine, matching the picture better. Maybe all three of mine are from the other set, or some other set altogether. Maybe that dark one she has actually has a breed specified. - Roger wrote:
About the Abysinian, I haven't listed it yet and I surely don't have an opinion about it. The Abyssinian on WhiteLightning Wolf's thread also helped me here! I would say you have them in the right place currently. I bet my new one, the weird ginger colored one, is just a variation of the "Club Earth." - Quote :
- The fact you've found the unmarked is #3 gives to me the perception that it is really from these sets. Why is it not marked with a breed I don't know.
I listed it as a British Shorthair but the green eyes are consistent with the Russian blue so I will fix it and put a note they're not identified. Please could you check if I placed these #3 cats correctly? They look good as far as I was thinking of them, but now that I've seen how dark the one in the old thread is, I am not sure! Maybe someone will have the dark one or I will find it and can confirm if there's a difference to the stamps someday. |

Again, I wished our mini lovers were more active in this thread but you're doing a fantastic work sorting these cats. The yellow farm cat is a kind of peculiar thing about the Play Visions set and if it ever existed, it may be an identifying feature of this particular set. It could be a decision based in the fact that #8 and #9 offered by the manufacturer are so alike, thus Play Visions prefered a different color version of the Farm #23 instead of two alike cats in the same series. But it is hard to tell. Thus, I followed your suggestion and now the #8 on Play Visions set is the Brown Birman and the newer one is on Club Earth set. I added a note on PV Birman page and listing like that allows us to present different pages to two very different versions. About the Abysinian, I haven't listed it yet and I surely don't have an opinion about it. The fact you've found the unmarked is #3 gives to me the perception that it is really from these sets. Why is it not marked with a breed I don't know. I listed it as a British Shorthair but the green eyes are consistent with the Russian blue so I will fix it and put a note they're not identified. Please could you check if I placed these #3 cats correctly? Susanne's Siamese deserved to be revisited. Oh, you're close from completing your series. I believe you're having fun and that's the most important when we enjoy collecting these figures regardless of their collecting value. |

All I need is an excuse to open a gray wolf comparison topic. :) Our great friend Roger asked for some advice and thoughts on a new gray wolf model, he is considering adding a new one to his shelves. I thought maybe it would be educational to ask everyone what their tastes are? I have small HO scale wolves, to the giant Papo monster, so surely I have some options amongst the typical collecting scale models... here goes! Pictured are the models from all brands over the last few years I considered good. Papo walking, previous generation bullyland walking, mojo fun walking and standing pair, new safari, previous generation safari howling, and a few generations of the ever present Schleich. All together [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]The larger end of the scale Medium approximate sizes Howlers and growlers (someone doesn't appreciate the music) Family portrait 3 schleich musketeers And a duet My first pick of the bunch is the new Safari. For me, it has the best proportions and paint scheme, certain details that are missing from others. My second would have to the Schleich [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] as to me its just a classic. This model's proportions are excellent as well, though it's coat while technically realistic it isn't a typical color. Pick [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] would be the papo walking female paired with it's pup, they make a nice match and both are nicely detailed especially in the face. The rest of course I love anyway being a wild canid enthusiast but each has some flaw or quirk to it. So I am curious, which of these (or suggest your own) is your favorite? And picking models is a very personal thing for a collector, but I hope we can provide some discussion here to help our friend find a great new collection piece. That's interesting Adam and our main focus for ELC is defintely those marked ELC. Besides AAA, it was also possible to find Early Learning Center selling other brands but not under their brand name. Surely yours and Taylor's contributions with pictures were important.
