Modeling an auroch bull Empty
PostSubject: Modeling an auroch bull   Modeling an auroch bull EmptyWed Sep 11, 2013 3:25 pm

I am very excited about something that I've been trying to do and I have never decided. Try modeling animal figures. I've never done anything like this and I enjoy what I'm starting to do Very Happy Very Happy !!

Informing me online and learning from the great masters we have in this community (problems, solutions, techniques and textures ...). I started working on a figure of an animal that has always fascinated me, the aurochs.
Except to the wonderful figure that Harriet made long ago, no brand has dared to do it ( maybe Starlux ?)

I'll try to make a male auroch 1:20.
I'd be pleased to answer any comments or assistance, pleeeaseee !!Very Happy

Miguel, I am not one of the masters of this forum but I am completely excited with your project. Very Happy
I know you'll receive good tips from our artists and judging from what you have already done before with some great customs, I am sure it will result in a fascinating sculpture. Very Happy
I agree it is a fantastic animal, an interesting species and rarely featured, it needs a lot of research but that is only another exciting point of your project. Very Happy
Looking forward to follow your work and good luck! cheers

The process continues with something more definite forms of the body and realization of the ears and horns, in order to discover more fully the position of the animal.

Your model looks good, I'm interested to see it when it's finished. So you know you can bake sculpey multiple times, and keep adding more new clay after each baking. It can be sanded and carved as well, this is useful to refine anatomy or make the horns the right shape.

Also, to avoid cracking don't take the sculpture out of the oven until it has cooled down completely. Rapid changes in temperature can cause cracking, such as from a hot oven to room temperature.

Thank you again for your words of encouragement !!.

Pege, I tried to learn from ancient skeletons preserved, art reproductions and number of breeds of bulls with old features still living.

Thank you very much for these great tips Elephas. The part that I think is difficult to make hair texture. Not that instrument brands make a delicate coat. I would like to give me some advice.

PostSubject: Re: Modeling an auroch bull   Modeling an auroch bull EmptyThu Sep 12, 2013 1:30 pm

Normally texture of fur is one of the most time consuming part in sculpting animal figures. I think it's not difficult but require patience. I usualy draw many short lines by scalpel (you can use knife or other sharp tool as well), these lines must be close to each other and go in the right directions - you need to observe how the real fur grow.
On longer, more wooly parts you can use tool with very small ball on it's end. By touching the clay with this tool you can create the shapes similar to longer, curly fur. And later you can add also more details by scalpel or knife.
Later, after baking, you can refine texture in places where you think it's necessary. You can also sand and scratch the surface when it's hard. It may help in many cases, especially on horns.
I think this aurochs is an exciting project bounce

Anna gave some great tips on fur sculpting, that is what I would recommend as well.  With a paintbrush you can brush rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) on the sculpted fur to soften the look of it and make it more realistic and subtle.
