| We can see already that the pygmy hippo is just a brilliant sculpture. I believe sometimes sculptors are not tempted to sculpt this animal because it is not the most atractive of all and also because apparently it could look like a common hippo. Actually, pygmy hippos are different enough and yours is more than recognizable. Love proportions, the relatively delicate legs and already with folds, the small head, everything. Honestly, if you plan to make copies, if I can afford it I'll surely want one of them. The elephant looks also great, it is missing some texturing, isn't it? :elehpant: You're really talented, congratulations and thanks for sharing! |

| Fantastic sculptures! I'm sure both will look amazing when finished :) May I ask what material do you use for sculpting them? _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |

Sorry no copies for this one, but maybe a shapeways model, I'm doing some tests now for that. - Roger wrote:

Thank you Roger, I agree with you that pygmy hippos have a very unique look compared to the common hippo. I was inspired to make mines after seeing the Starlux pygmy hippo. Yes the elephant is still in early stages with much more work to be done on it. - Mangalarga wrote:

May I ask what material do you use for sculpting them? I'm using super sculpey grey clay for these. |

| Both of these look really excellent. You have a great eye for the animals' shapes and proportions. Do you do sketches or anything first? Or do you find it easier just to start by sculpting?
I love the pygmy hippo. Can't wait to see the new forest bull added to your herd. |

Interesting to know of your inspiration, the pose is really somewhat similar to Starlux Cyprus dwarf hippo. The Colorata looks also with a very nice sculpt but very boring pose instead. |

I love the pygmy hippo. Can't wait to see the new forest bull added to your herd. Thanks bjarki, I normally don't sketch anything but I print out a side view image (to scale) for use as a reference for proportions. I pose the metal armature to how I like and then start adding clay. I usually change the pose as I'm sculpting to try out different possibilities. - Roger wrote:
