| I promised myself I wouldn't come home with any figures for myself after taking a trip to Toys R' Us for another member of the forum. I suppose that didn't work very well. They had the new orca, and I couldn't resist! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I can't yet decide if I like the way it stands, but it is easier to display. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Schleich can't seem to figure out where the eye patch goes [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Painted mouth, but slightly sloppy |

| Congrats! I'm hoping a local Toys R Us near me will soon get the orca. I think they should've put the saddle patch on him up higher on his back and not so close to the white patches on the side. |

Thank you Yes, I thought there was something odd about the saddle patch. |

| Those spots in his mouth, has every orca those? The biggest spot looks like a seal. Is that my big imagination or should it be? |

I'm not an orca specialist, but I know that orcas have this in therir mouth and by every orca it's an other one. |

I found some pics on the internet, and orcas have indeed spots in their mouth, but a little different from the schleich one: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]_________________ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Anne-Joke [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ajs.artistry - Instagram AJs Artistry Shop - Etsy |

| Yes, each orca does have the spotting/patches in their mouth, it varies from individual to individual. Schleich's older orca (#14551) also had it too, but I think it was more like a few black stripes and not actual spots. |

| In my opinion, that older Schleich model 14551 (2005-2009) had the most realistic head and paint job on its belly out of all of them. Good flukes too, although uniquely curving up (not seen often in wild or captive orcas, but not unheard of). Position of the eye patches was off, though, but that indeed seems like a neverending issue. The rest of its body was such a let-down, because it was way out of proportion. Much too thin… it really needed much more bulk, especially since they seemed to be aiming to represent an adult male killer whale.
What I like about this later model is the way the teeth in the upper jaw aren’t visible from the side, as they’ve correctly given it an upper lip, behind which they are hidden. Unless you look at the open mouth from the front or slightly from below, can you see the teeth in the upper jaw. The lack of detail on the belly is also less appealing, but I’m guessing they deliberately chose to simplify the paint job. |
