| My collector's spirit has been jubilating since the beginning of this year, as I saw so many S. American species entering the animal replica market. South America had been always overlooked by major brands - I even [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] with S. American wildlife before, because of its scarce plastic biodiversity... But now situation is changing, both on the market and in my collection ;)I'd like to share some pics of my two newcomers - magnificent Baird's Tapir with cub and Maned Wolf by Collecta (they were reviewed in details by [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]). Here's the Baird's Tapir next to Safari's Malayan Tapir (is the scale right here, what do you think?): [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The wolf and the tapirs among other S. American critters: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I wonder if maned wolf is so significantly taller than a jaguar in real life. Is it really so? The newcomers among a group of other Collecta figures: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]What can I say... Collecta is well on the way to the leadership on the plastic animals market! Agree? _________________ Owners of miniature zoos on shelves, unite! My collector's blog

Well, every brand makes cute horses because they have a large target audience. But what matters is which wildlife species is the brand manufacturing, and is the figures' quality high? Schleich has improved itself in 2013, I think - take the griffon vulture, for instance, or macaws, or the otter. _________________ Owners of miniature zoos on shelves, unite! My collector's blog

Schleich has improved itself in 2013, I think - take the griffon vulture, for instance, or macaws, or the otter. IMHO, the macaws are alright, the otter is, again, cute, and the vulture has much poorer painting than usual. And they introduced the new rubbery material that doesn't seem to be a benefit for the figure in any way. But possibly 2013 is better than 2012. |

I agree with you! Other companies have released some nice figures, but it seems as if CollectA has surpassed them all with detailing, painting and releasing species others are too afraid to. |

| Kiril, I think for wildlife CollectA is giving the widest diversity, with Mojo close. Species choices are excelent and figures are in average very good, among the best on market. Also CollectA makes figures that are hard to manufacture. We can't compare how complex is to make a maned wolf when compared to an otter. The complex horns of the blackbuck and markhor. It is incredible how good they are and CollectA was able of making them without oversizing them. I have a huge atraction for some Papo figures and Mojo is also making an excelent work, so I share the leading between these 3 brands with Safari very close. As you know, also CollectA doesn't make figures in scale but is one of the brands that the illusive effect works better. Maned wolves can be 1 metter tall while jaguars, although much more massive and heavy, are only up to 75 cm. Considering that maned wolves are much shorter, it would give the impression that they are much taller when they're in real about 33% than a jag. Those are fantastic additions and I suspect your former favorite brand never gave you so many nice figures in such a short time. I believe this diagram shows tapirs size comparisons. |

| Thanks for explanation about the sizes, Roger! Unfortunately, I don't have Mojo lowland tapir to compare. Is it a bit smaller than Collecta's Baird's? _________________ Owners of miniature zoos on shelves, unite! My collector's blog

Unfortunately, I don't have Mojo lowland tapir to compare. Is it a bit smaller than Collecta's Baird's? Brazilian tapirs are indeed smaller in average than Baird's but they share a similar range of sizes. Here is a picture from Zhang that was in Mojo section.
