Walkaround: Yujin Aquarium Fish in Colour series 2 pearlscale (by Konimini)

Shown in this walkaround is the Series 2 pearlscale (chinshurin) goldfish from the Aquarium Fish In Colour/Aquarium Golden Fish series by Yujin and Takara Tomy A.R.T.S.

Like all of the fish in the series (well, the ones I've seen), the model is extremely well made, lifelike and highly detailed, with meticulously sculpted and painted scales, translucent fins and metallic overtones to their multihued paintwork. The figure shown here was bought second-hand and has had slight paintjob retouching done to damaged areas. The main colour scheme has not been changed. The figure is 6cm long and comprises of a transparent support rod, a "stony" base (the dull and bluish paintwork of which is in my opinion is the model's the only weakness), and the fish itself. The support rod is slightly bent so its orientation may be altered by rotating it on the base, slightly changing the angle the fish "swims" in.

The model is of a further mutated form of the common goldfish (walkaround [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]), which itself is a mutated form of the common carp. The pearlscale is bred for a debilitatingly round and broad body shape, earning the breed the alternative name "ping pong pearlscale", restricting the fish's movement and compressing its internal organs. The fish's breeding for decorative purposes also causes in it swim bladder disorders, further hampering the fish's ability to swim. The Yujin model, for all its deformity, depicts a notably more moderate body shape than what is popularly bred for these days.

The model is very impressive, so impressive that I have the same feeling than when I see the real fish. The quest for "beauty" sometimes take incredible paths when the result is a poor creature with poor swimming adaptation

Of course Christophe is right, that Man's interest in the unusual somthimes result in very weird creatures. 

However, this fish is not too extreme, and after all it is a "tame" animal, not much more handicapped than f.inst. a milking cow or a pug ...like it or not

While I agree with Susanne about the fish's handicappedness being comparable to that of pugs and (certain breeds of) dairy cows, I disagree with her about the fish (as well as pugs and said breeds of dairy cows by extension) not being too extreme. I find that difficulty in simply moving, and internal organs being squeezed into the wrong body cavities - which are what this fish will have - are far too extreme a cost for a "pretty" appearance. Wonderful walkarounds once again!  

Human prepotency goes to the limit of breeding to reach the extreme malformation and collect disabilities. Strange creatures humans are, ahrd to say how healthy breeders are sometimes.
However, the figure is again a little relic.
