| Thanks for the help. I know now Schleich have a colour code price system in the UK but now I find Dinasours and other pieces with no price on and no colour code why is this? How did this work in the past were the items priced or still colour coded, or am I missing something can the tag on the models give me a clue to price, once again Help regards Andy |

| Before the computers, they simply had a pricelist. Sometimes there was a sticker on each model Hard to remember the time before the barcodes ! For each item you bought , groceries and all, they tapped the price into a calculating-machine, which added them up... I even remember when they wrote the prices on the wrapping paper and added them in the head [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| To add to what Susanne has, for the dinos and sealife that are not color-coded, these are much larger, so will be, obviously, much more expensive. These ones will have an information packet in many languages telling basic information about the animal, and on that the store will put their own price sticker on that. However, Schleich's latest sealife is smaller and is part of the color-coding system. The ancient little dinos are also part of the color-coding system. Another thing is the scenery packs. They can't sell a pack with many animals in for the price of one! So these get separate prices, usually around $20USD for the regular size ones, and up. The larger pieces, like the castle and barns, again, obviously cannot sell for the price of one animal, so need a different price. |

| Personally I think it is all a con - how much does it really cost Schleich to produce each small plastic model? Less than a euro I am sure taking into account economies of scale yet the price increase year after year and no doubt the price will raise again in 2014 until eventually the larger models such as the elephant get to £10.00.
Schleich seems to have most of it's production shifted to China but then the savings made here have not been reflected in the prices of the models.
Sorry I am going off tangent here but Schleich's pricing really frustrates me. Schleich is like the Nike or Addidas of the Sports world - quality stays the same or decreases but prices go up year on year and models shrink in size. The mark up must be huge and we are just paying for the brand if anything really. |
