| A super bonus for us collectors! CollectA listened and obliged in creating a wonderful Coconut palm. I am so pleased to share this with you guys. I have longed for a big brand to create this plant and hope that the series expands in future. This for me is THE most exciting release of 2014 followed by the Mountain Nyala, Buffalo and Wild Ass. I really want to thank CollectA for supporting the idea and bringing this to model to life. I have always hoped that with the retirement of Schleich trees that CollectA will be creative and create unusual plants and trees to accompany our animal collections. The current trees made by CollectA are more prehistoric type plants whereas I hope this is the first of many modern plants. A couple of adjustment are still being made but essentially this is the final model and it will fit in perfectly with our wildlife models. The idea first came about two years ago. I do hope we have some more palm species in future I do not have the exact size yet and will let you know as soon as I receive this. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| It's beautiful! Interesting how there are three attached to the base instead of one. |

| I hope they also do many other kinds of plants other than tropical. It would be interesting to see what they would do with some kind of pine. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. Hi there Schleich did make two types of pine trees that were retired last year but still available to purchase online. I hope CollectA moves towards creating tropical and non tropical plants and trees not created before but who knows |

| Numaan, please understand I think the basic sculpting is beautiful, but there is a big mistake in the anatomy of the tree that has to be pointed out. It would be the same as if they made the next animal figure with the wrong number of ears, if the water buffalo had 3 ears instead of 2 would we be praising it as such a fantastic figure and one we all must have in our collection? With that said, if they are making adjustments to the final figure, so the tree is as accurate as possible the lowest set of fronds that is separated by the coconuts should be removed. In nature, even in cultivated forms, the way palms grow any fronds that get separated from the main group would be torn from the trunk by the wind. Without the support of the crown the wind and weather just rips any individual and all of the lower (which are also the oldest) fronds away from the tree, it is the normal way they grow. This is also the natural way the tree sheds the oldest fronds from its trunk so they don't interfere with new growth or cause areas where fungus and disease can attack the trunk by trapping moisture and bacteria that would rot the soft tissue of the trunk.
It may be too late to make such a big change but there are no natural growth patterns in coconut palm trees where healthy fronds are separated from the crown on a regular basis, (some cold weather palms keep dead fronds around the trunk as insulation but they are not separated and lay flat against the trunk to keep the wind from blowing them away) there are always individuals where a certain set of conditions produce the right situation, but for a coconut palm this is not something I have seen and I have probably seen over 100 thousand individual trees over the course of my life. I hope this is something that can be changed, as you know, I love trees and palms are my favorite. I would love to have a major brand produce palm tree figures in several species, it would be a fantastic addition to any collection. |
