| Long overdue but Yvette sent me some great additions; Bullyland Antelope and resting deer. So my big questions is: what type of antelope would this be??? It looks like a mixture of 3! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] _________________ Shawn

| I'm no expert, but maybe a Thompson's gazelle or a... Oh, now I can't think of the name but its a gazelle to. Wonderful deer, congrats on the new additions. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Shawn, congratulations for your new antelope! Asking the species is a good question. That figure belongs to a period where most animals were made to have a generic looking. Bully called it just antilope. We can always try to guess which animal they used to make it but it is not easy once this kind of figures were always a trouble due to their delicate parts. We have the classic example of the Schleich oryx, a figure where everything is massive and attached to a minimal body. And with gazelles, that are antelopes too as you know, it turns even harder. Even CollectA, the brand that is able of making more delicate parts, is making a sprinbok that looks more one of these massive antelopes than really a gazelle. Like Andreas, considering that everything is much more massive than should be, I think they based it in a Grant's gazelle, though, horns are not curved properly and from what I can see it doesn't have the typical large rump patch of that species. Could you take a picture from the top behind? Which other species do you think they based this work? |

| It seems like a mixure of Topi, (the horns are somewhat the same but the face is not long enough), grants gazelle (though not light or have enough white in it, horns are wrong too), a bulky impala (with wrong horns?) or a Lechwe. I think it is a "mutt", a combo of a number of breeds. _________________ Shawn

| Yes, really hard to determine. It was not unusual to see random antelopes some years ago, fortunately these last years brands are much more specific with their animals and more exigent with their replicas. Though, some brands keep using generic names like Papo with the gibbon, now we know it is a lar gibbon but they could specify it. This year Schleich with a megabat that we don't know which species it is and Bullyland keeps being somewhat generic. CollectA, Safari, Mojo and Japanese brands, luckily, identify their figures to the species or subspecies level. :) I really cannot identify which species this antelope is supposed to be, all these look possible and all of them look wrong. So it is a hybrid! |
