| I tried to photography al my Schleich horses, and I though it would be a great idea doing it in this way-in fact I arrage them chronologicaly. When I get a "new" old horse I have to rearrange all the horses! They are like parked at my shelf xD Well, I took them off the shelf to take the photos. All the horses have their breed and their serial number (but keep in mind I changed some breeds since I think some of them don´t suit with the breed they are said to be). I write the year they have at their belly, not the year when they were avaliable for sale: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]1985-1991 1985- Godolphin Arabian (13204) 1988- Haflinger mare (13209) 1991-Toroughbred mare (13216) 1990- Bardigiano gelding (13215) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]1992 Arabian mare (13221) Arabian colt (13109) Shagya-arabian gelding (13220) This is one of my 2 firsts horses, which my mother bought me years ago, so it´s very special for me [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]1993-1994 1993- Vladimir gelding (13222) 1993- Jutland gelding (13222-yes, the same number) 1994- Tennessee walker mare (13225) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]1995 Quarter mare (13227) Quarter mare (13228) Tennessee walker filly (13115) Quarter mare-darker coat (13227) Shetland gelding (13232) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]1996 Appaloosa stallion (13229) Camarga mare (13236) Haflinger gelding (13234) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]1997-1999 1997- Nonius gelding (13235) This is one of my 2 firsts horses, which my mother bought me years ago, so it´s very special for me :) 1999- Belgian draft stallion (13244) 1998- Friesian gelding, baroque type (13242) This horse is also special because it was my grandma who gave it to me. She bought it while travelling; I´ve never seen it at shops. 1998- Paint gelding (13241) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2000 Icelandic gelding (13264) Arabian stallion (13248) Fjörd gelding (13250) Shire stallion (13247) Quarter mare (13251) Icelandic gelding (13249) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2001 French trotter mare (42024) Bavarian mare (13262) French saddle mare (13253) Bavarian filly (13263) Trakehner mare (13261) Pinto mare (42024) Lipizzaner mare (13603) Orlov trotter gelding(13252) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2002 Appaloosa stallion (13271) I specially like this one because it was so hard to find! | Fabulous collection! You have so many lovely ones! I see the 1991-Thoroughbred mare (13216) is like the horse in the schleich racing set. I don't think I've ever seen this old version before. |

| Thank you both! HKHollinstone, it´s not the same. Maybe the same pose, but the new one is much much more detailed, and I´m sure is also bigger than the old one. Anyway, the old one is galloping at left hand, and new at right hand (I´m not sure if you say that in English, I just translated from Spanish because I have no idea): [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]_________________ Visit my collection gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Visit my art gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I accept commissions! |

| Thanks for the pictures, yes you're completely right, I misremembered the race set horse. I love the race set, but I keep telling myself - I'm saving for 2011. |

| I also like riding sets, but I don´t collect them- I only buy horses if they have anything else. I mean, if they have a saddle, or reins, or something else unremovable I don´t buy them, I don´t like people in my collection, just horses :) Andddd they are so expensive! _________________ Visit my collection gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Visit my art gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I accept commissions! |

Our friend Philip will stay crazy when he see it! ...and I will pay attention at your collection,, one thing I'm seeing is that you are calling Pure Spanish to horses are called usually andalusian! And those with Lusitanos are the only Iberian breeds, or there are more, Sylvia? Hi Roger! Your questions are really interesting. Pure Spanish Breed are called Andalusian, also in Spain, because the breed was much more popular in Andalucía, in the south of Spain. But the real name is Pura Raza Española (PRE), Pure Spanish Breed in English. PRE and Lusitano are not the only Iberian breeds. We also have these breed here in Spain: -Caballo de Deporte Español (CDE) or Spanish Soprt horse, which is similar to any sport horse breed from Europa. CDE is mostly based on Spanish, German and Belgian blood. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Hispano, also called Angloárabe español, in English you could say Spanish angloarabian. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Certosino, also known as Jerezano, which is more like a sub-type of PRE, but with Berberisco and arabian blood. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Hispanobretón, wich is similar to a draft horse (but their feathers-long hairs in legs- are not as big as in drafts are) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Galaicoasturiano, or Asturcón, which is so small that many people call them "ponies". They are from the north of Spain. They are always black, like Friesians. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Pottoka, or Pottok, a pony from the nord, it´s the only iberian breed wich can have a pinto pattern (not appaloosa). [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Jaca Navarra, wich is a little horse, it´s like half heavy horse and half pony. It´s from north-centre of Spain. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Menorquín, from Menorca, similar to PRE and Friesian, and always black. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Mallorquín, from Mallorca, more similar to PRE than Menorquín horses, also always black. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And from Portugal there are some breeds appart from the lusitano: -Alter Real, which is a saddle breed with German and Spanish blood [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Losino, a black pony similar to Asturcón horse. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]-Sorraia, it´s a pony similar to Tarpán and Przewalsky horses, and have primitive gene, like Dun (lineback and zebra markings). Sorraia is a very ancient breed but it´s in danger. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I´m not sure if there are more Portuguese breeds. If you are interested and want more info, just send me a message:) Ah, and Mustangs come from PRE EDITED: I aded some breeds I forgotten xD I will edit again to insert images. EDITED2: I added the images :) [left] _________________ Visit my collection gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Visit my art gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I accept commissions!

| Oh thanks Sylvia! What a great job, I never thought I was so ignorant, in our days we can find everything googling but with this quality and in this way my motivation about this animals grows a lot! Now I am slightly less ignorant thanks to your help! In fact a long time ago I've read something about Sorraia but I need to put my attention again in this animals. Some are great but not available in plastic figures, I guess! Fortunately we have some already some Lusitanos and Andalusians! Muchas gracias! |

I´m glad you found this helpful ^^
I would love to have more Iberian breeds, so I´m thinking about sculpting them myself. But first I have to finish my to-do-list and finish my exams :) _________________ Visit my collection gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Visit my art gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I accept commissions! |

| WOW! Thank you SO much for the pictures, too. Extremely interesting ! There is really something to do for a model horse artist "The Spanish Riding School, though located in Vienna, Austria, takes its name from the original Spanish heritage of its horses."This is copied from Wikipedia There is a Danish Frederiksborger in them, too. So the Lipizzaners are sort of Spanish, too. Just like the mustangs, as you say I have never been to Spain, gosh, I wished I could go |

Think about all the ancient american breeds (Azteca, Pasofino, etc), they are all based on Spanish and Mustang -which is also based on Spanish horses I´m not a big fan of PRE because of their morphology, but I´m proud of their importance! ^^ Philip, I have 92 Schleich (I think), and maybe 30 Papo, Bullyland and Safari. I also have some Breyers: 4 traditional, and 7 stablemates. But soon I´ll have 4 more Schlecih, because I´m waiting for their arrivals ^^ I´m glad you liked my collection _________________ Visit my collection gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Visit my art gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I accept commissions! |

As I'm thinking in Iberian breeds and you have some Papo, I'd like to know your oppinion about the Papo Andalusian. Another question is why don't you have the new CollectA? I think that those two last years of production were nice for this brand. I know the Schleich andalusians, the Papo and the last CollectA, and the one that impressed me more was the CollectA. Anyway don't forget that I don't understand nothing of horses and my spirit of collector is buy what is more realistic and accurate and not what is impressing me or is beautiful. Of course sometimes I buy figures for other reasons... but...! Have you got any oppinion about these 3 brands? Which one do you think represents better the characteristics of an Andalusian? Thanks!:) |

Thanks!:) I don´t know anything about Collecta. Here was the first place where I heard of it. About Papo andalusian... Is not well done. In fact, I don´t know well which breed does suit it better. Anyway, I have some Safari and Papo, and I have to say that if I want any model, I want to see it with my own eyes. There are many models from these brands which seem to be beautiful at the catalogue and later I don´t like them when I see them at the shop. For example I liked a galloping thoroughbred (I think Safari), it was very nice at the photos, but when I was able to touch it... OMG, what a fat belly, ugly face and enormus croup! But in the other side, I recelty bough a Friesian by Safari (I think) which is very well done. And I don´t have any PRE by Safari. About Schleich, the male PRE is good, is not perfect but it´s very similar to a real PRE horse. The mare is very well done. And the foal is a bit unespecific, but not badly done. _________________ Visit my collection gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Visit my art gallery at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I accept commissions! |

| The Andalusian mare is good but the braids in the mane let it down in realistic views. She's still very beautiful though :) like her young owner decided to make her pretty with the braids. |

| Thanks again Sylvia!!! You've explained exactily the way I like!:) Shape is very important! Now I don't know what to do with my dark Papo Andalusian! The Portuguese Safari distributor is not selling horses, I'd like to have the Lusitano but I have to order it online or wait. The CollectA distributor is waiting for 2011 to put 2010 figures in shops, I know these figures because I was in his store seeing carefully the new ones! CollectA is launching a 2011 Lusitano, I hope it is great and not to wait til 2012 to buy it! Anyway when CollectA PRE is available I'll put some pics if you want! I agree with Rio, the work in the mane of the Schleich PRE mare looks unrealistic, but is a beautiful figure!:) |
