Discontinued models in shops

Yesterday we went to a little shop to buy a giraffe for our boy and we saw a few animals I haven't seen on Schleich web page. When I got home, I found out those models aren't made any more - 2 orangutan females 14306, 14307 orangutan baby, couple of 14148 zebras, 14354 Lion and 4-5 piglets 14335 and 14336 (maybe even more "oldies" but I didn't have much time to look closely)...

My question is, how often you have a chance to find relatively old models on regular market, in shops?

It depends on the stock... I recently saw the Shire gelding in a shop, and it was discontinued long time ago!

No Susanne, we haven't bought them. I'm not a collector, just buying nice ones for my kids. Anyway, my goal is to make them a nice African corner in our apartment, with a few trees and animals(not to mention that I like more newer lion and zebras than the old ones)...

Although, those piglets are gorgeous

The oldest I find was the boer family, retired in 2008, and I've bought it in August 2010!
Anyway I only have the parents, baby is absolutly impossible to find!
It was in a big Schleich shop in a small village in the South of Portugal, In big towns never found almost nothing retired, only some 2009 retired figures, but almost penguins!

But you are right, I hav cheked a lot of Danish internet-shops. Many have the adult Boers, but no baby

In Kiev shops I see remnants of the retired models from time to time. Recently I saw a real herd of ibexes (up to 8 pieces) and wild boars/sows with piglets.

OK same shop, situation this morning. Since I spent more time looking at online catalogs, now I see this shop is excellent concerning retired models...

I could buy retired ones easy but I will have to order animals for 2011 online cause I don't think they could come in our regular shops until august/september...

Well, this have 2 sides, the good, and the bad.. The good, you can buy retired animals "when you want", the bad, you need wait a lot for buy the 2011 animals..

There are 5 shops here but this one has a lot more animals for sale and is the only one who has retired items...

You need find the better solution for this case..

WOW, what a great shop for retireds. As Roger said in another thread the boer goats are difficult to find especially the baby. If you could afford them you may be able to make some money or do trades with others on the forum for ones you want. The Blanket Appaloosa is not available anymore either...wow!

There is an online store in the USA that sells retired figures for alot more than off the shelf...you could go into business.
