| Hey guys. I had two days off from studying, so I've started sculpting a tamandua with Fimo Clay Soft. I haven't worked on this material before. I must say that the sculpting goes very fast, but the figure itself is too heavy, and the material is sometimes too soft. Due to this fact, I would like to ask you if I should make a smaller tamandua from the beginning. I'm not very happy with this one. There is something wrong with this sculpture and I don't know what exactly; maybe you could help me find out?

| Hello Agata. I'll try to help you because I see that there is a main part to improve, IMHO the head is too big. In tamandua head is more or less the same size of a front limb. It's a very common mistake in sculptors, also with me, because sometimes we focus all attention in the head because is where we find more complex parts. I think also the hindlimb don't seems to be articulated. I hope it helps. About material I haven't use Fimo clay soft, so I can't help you with that. _________________ Joan [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Likaon Wildlife Models Shop my handmade models: http://bestiari.weebly.com/ my models in facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bestiari.animal.replicas[/center] |

| Looks good! I agree with Joan, the head should be a bit smaller. |

| I like him so far. As for the clay, I've always found more success in more firm clays. |

| I've started sculpting from a scratch, analyzing its measure carefully. I hope it will be better now. |

| This is how it looks so far. I'm thinking about shortening the neck a little bit. I have turned its head left to make the pose more interesting. I will add the tail tomorrow, and I will add claws after baking. |

| I think there's something off with the hind legs. The head is perfect, but please don't be offended by my comment, the body looks more like it belongs to a polar bear, it seems too bulky? Maybe the body should be a little slimmer and the front legs could be a little more firm then the hind legs and maybe the back is too arched as well? Some pictures to show what I mean: Not arched and slim: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The front legs of a baby tamandua are already more muscular: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]More pics of adult tamandua's. I don't know if it's muscle or fur that make the front legs look bigger: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]A drawing of a walking tamandua: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Again, I don't want to offend. I've watched you make fantastic animals and I enjoy seeing you grow so fast! You are going to make a beautiful tamandua, I have no doubt. But I know you sometimes get stuck (artistically) and I myself have my sister I can count on to point out mistakes I've made in drawing, painting and modeling. And I always value them, because it's always good to have another pair of eyes to watch your work and give some positive critique. (It's sucks though when you've put hours of work into something and then have your sister walk into your room and say: "the legs are too thick", or "why is that tail so long?" and you know she is right.....) |

Thank you very much for help! And also thank you Joan for precious tips I'm always open for critique, without it I would not improve my skills :) I see your point, and I will look at these things tomorrow. I also need somebody to point out my mistakes, because sometimes I just can't see them myself. That's why I will ask for your opinion from now everytime I make a sculpture... |

| I have added fur and baked the sculpture. Some body parts still need some correction. I have a very important and difficult exam tomorrow on which I'm not prepared very well, so keep fingers crossed!!! |
