I know awhile back Andreas (widukind) posted a thread suggesting that a number of the dinosaurs in existence maybe mixed up with another dinosaur, or may be one or the same. I was reading up on the debates about Triceratops and Torosaurus being prime examples of being the same, or 2 entirely different species. I know the following reasons can explain why half of the dinosaurs classified maybe incorrectly or inaccurately reconstructed. -Inaccurate Reconstruction. -Genetic, birth, or physical deformations. -External or internal injury. -2 dinosaurs dying next to each other, and having their bones completely mixed up. Like Brontosaurus for example. -Different age periods, usually infant, juvenile, or adult stages getting mixed up as another species. -Incomplete fossils or bone discoveries. -Different variations, or smaller versions evolved for different areas. So, do you think Triceratops and Torosaurus are one or the same, or perhaps, 2 different species? I think that the Torosaurus is another species of closely related ceratopsian, just not quite the same.

Is the smallest Torosaurus the adult stage of the taller triceratops ? I don't know... But I know how to answer in the question I wish, I hope NO. Paleotonlogist community is divided on that subject. What I really think is: When we are unable to proof that two different skeletons are from the same species, it is better to think it is from different species. But I'm not a scientist. What I know also is that, in the past, some "crazy" scientists said unbelievable things like: Dinosaurs were warmblood, they were able to live in pack and to take care of their child, some have feathers and some have quills and, finally, birds are dinosaurs... Crazy no ?

Hahaha I agree it is very crazy...Torosaurus and Triceratops have VERY different skulls so I think that they are a bit different, if not, at least a sub-species? It is indeeda difficulty to prove when all you have is bones.

Yes that is very true. It is one of the ideas listed above. How would you exactly know the difference?

One should also remember that torosaurus make up less than 1% of the fossils fom their habitats and triceratops material is found 90% of the time. I imagine torosaurus being more like rhinos, in the sense that they are mostly solitary, and triceratops as perhaps more herd animals. I honestly like the idea of synonymy, but the evidence just doesn't support it- just like 'pachydracomolich'.
