| Thank you for the walkaround It is detailed, however it looks as if with it being in the jumping pose, the white markings aren't proportioned. It's actually a he, there are no mammary marks present: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The female is on top, the male on the bottom. Even as a calf, the marks would be present. Brutus wants to go whale watching! |

Brutus wants to go whale watching! I confess my ignorance and judged it by the shape of the dorsal fin and forgot that they're only distinct when they are not calves anymore. Pectoral fins also look small for a male but I don't know if it can be seen in juveniles. Also, the central white patch on back ventral part, is somewhat rounded and not stretched as it is in males, I guess but your explanation and knowledge about them make me sure you're right. It is good to have people expertized like you on forum to help us with the wonderful marine world. |

Males do not get the larger pectoral fins and dorsal fins until they hit puberty, which is usually between 11 and 15 years of age. I have noticed CollectA isn't too accurate in gender with the adult orca. It's pectoral fin, dorsal fin and lack of mammaries would suggest a male, but the patch on the ventral would suggest a female: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I apologize for the picture being so large, it was the clearest one I could find to show what I was talking about. Anyway, I don't know what's up with CollectA's orcas and accuracy of their gender but they are more detailed compared to others I have seen. BTW, thank you Roger for your comment |

| Interesting discussion, being it a male or female. I saw that same photo you showed OC, but I thought the calf would be a female. Due to that small, heart shaped, marking? Well, in any case, I need to learn a lot more about orcas in general XD Oh ant thank you for the adult orca photos Thank you everyone for the nice comments. Funny to see the comments about Brutus. LeeAnn: Hehehe XD Sometimes he sits on a desk or table, and gently mover his paw against a object he doesn't like. On the ground. And when I see it, he rolls around with his head, pretending he didn't do it and being as cute as he can be... Hihihi, thank you Luka Roger: Oh yes indeed he knows that! Mostly used for his own advantage of course... Susanne: Luckily he won't eat any of my whale, don't know the same if i would bring a fish to my collection OC: It is more whale sitting _________________ ~Karin~

You're welcome, as I said earlier CollectA's adult orca also has accuracy issues But it does look better than the previous one: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] If Brutus saw a real orca, I don't think he would want to whale sit |

I know, I have both versions and the older version's tail has details on it's tail that's similar to what a goldfish's tail looks like: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I'm like "Okay, they're mammals not fish" I've never been whale watching either Brutus would be like "Wait a minute, the ones my mom has at home are smaller!" |

BTW, thank you Roger for your comment You're welcome and thanks once more for your imput. I believe brands are not aware of sexual dimorphism in some animals. Apparently, to a not used eye or knowledgeable person, males and females do look almost the same and I suspect they also don't care with gender. So they use pictures of several animals mixing both sexes. So, these kind of topics are also interesting to developers, I guess. |

You're probably right about sexual dimorphism, not only that but I don't think young kids would be able to tell the difference. |

| Hey orcagirl26! So nice to have more orca-minded people on here! I have been considering buying the CollectA adult and calf for a while, and this walk around definitely helps, so thanks! Could you please repost the pictures of the different adult versions? I have noticed different versions online, but shops generally only seem to be using pictures of the (ugly!) older version. So, I am hesitant about making a purchase. From your experience, if I were indeed to buy the adult now, which version am I more likely to end up with? I completely agree that the companies have a great deal to learn about the differences that exist between male and female orca and proper proportions in general. For instance, Papo did a great job bulking up their orca, which overall does really look like an adult male. They also placed the eye patch correctly, which is quite a good feature! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]However, they failed to create a proper looking head, as the model arrives with the lower jaw looking poorly finished and separate. Almost as if it can be closed, but it can't... |

| Yes, the Papo Orca looks little bit disabled with this little mouth. And the blowhol from the Collecta calf are too far in the back. Collecta, make a new Orca please. ´When i get all orcas from all brands, i will make a comparison photo.
