| As JEOL is my favourite vintage brand I thought it would be neat to try and sculpt a figure in the same style as this company. I sculpted a younger elephant calf, there is already an older calf from the series along with an adult bull and cow. The JEOL figures are all in 1:32 scale, they are nicely proportioned and have a stylized look to them which adds to their appeal. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The armature.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The body was sculpted with Super Sculpey and the delicate tail and trunk end were made with epoxy putty.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I added the company name on the bottom to be more authentic.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Compared with Schleich and Britains models[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The new calf along with my other JEOL elephants. |

| That's an excelent idea and more than that an excelent work! It also shows that Jeol is a cult brand for you! It remembers me that I always wanted a cape buffalo in Britains style! |

You may cause a collector some brainwork some day I had the same thought as Susanne above. One day, there's going to be a discussion on your figurine, on a board a lot like this one, with everyone trying to figure out where the heck it came from. (I guess the material will be a dead giveaway.) |

Thank you Susanne and Scot, that would be funny if in the future someone only saw one image and thought this was a genuine JEOL model. - HKHollinstone wrote:

Thank Harriet. I looked up the components of Super sculpey and it turns out it is a pvc plastic based product. The pvc is suspended in a gel (plasticizer) which evaporates when baked thus fusing the PVC particles together. So I like to think of baked sculpey models as being plastic more than clay. I have used a dremel power tool to buff some of my models and they really feel like smooth plastic after. - Roger wrote:

It also shows that Jeol is a cult brand for you! It remembers me that I always wanted a cape buffalo in Britains style! Thanks Roger. It is too bad because Britains did have the cape buffalo as a possible model when they were planning their zoo series. Here is a picture of rough sketches from my Britains Zoo book. They also planned kudu, blackbuck, cheetahs etc. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Roger, your English is great. 'Cult brand' makes sense.
The page from the Britains Zoo Book was cruel! It's the Kudu and the Blackbuck that particularly cause me pain. (The body of the Cape Buffalo looks a little odd to me.) |

Well, this little elephant you made certainly resembles plastic in the way you've created it. I love how you put the brand name underneath, brilliant. _________________ Harriet My *Collection* My *Handmade Animal Sculpture*
