From Wikipedia: The Hungarian Pig, or Mangalica is a natural breed of pigs from Europe that are descended directly from wild boar populations. The pig is unusual as it grows a hairy 'fleece', like that of a sheep. There are three breeds: Blonde, Swallow-bellied, and Red. They all have the same behavior; the only difference is the colour. The Blonde Mangalica is blonde, the Swallow-bellied has a blonde belly and feet with a black body, and the red is ginger. The blonde Mangalica was developed from older hardy types of Hungarian pig (Bakonyi and Szalontai) crossed with the European Wild Boar and a Serbian breed. They were formerly bred as lard pigs and did not require any special care, and so became very popular in Hungary. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]CollectA decided to make this obscure pig for us and went with the Blonde version. It measures 10cm from nose to tail and is 5cm tall. The curly coat is perfectly done and gives the hog the sheeplike appearance it should have. The head is nice, with a friendly pig smile and they payed attention to the eyes, giving them a shiny look for a more life-like expression. I really have nothing bad to say about this pig. It's a keeper! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

What a topic very well presented. Good introduction, pictures and an interesting comparison picture with several breeds/brands. Thanks Simone. Not being a collector of farm animal figures, I find this release from CollectA of a huge interest. Brave also because kids are not used with pigs like that. Though, the Queen of pig breeds keeps being Safari Ltd with their funny old pigs from Safari Farm series.

Nice to see him from the other side as well. It's a great figurine and happy that CollectA decided to make one. I think his head should've been a bit more like a boar has. Texture is great though Congrtaulations and thanks, Simone! _________________ Jonas Animals are my friends. I don't eat my friends. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Jonas, I agree. That is the only bad thing I could say about this hog. His head could've been more boar like, since they were crossed with wild boar. Maybe its legs could've been a little taller as well. Aahhh....we collectors can only wish and hope, In the end we have to deal with the outcome, don't we?

Oh excellent! I always wanted to know how big the sow with piglets from Safari ltd. was. And now I can see her in all her motherly glory! She's fantastic. I may have to get her as well.
