There is an old wives tale that says if you kill a spider, it will rain.... I guess in the winter it would snow...though we are having rain right now... That is a beauty of a spider Susanne! I once as a young girl woke up with one similar to that, on the pillow beside by head - Yuck!

What you need to do is buy a spider-size calendar and put it where they can see it. Winter's not spider season!

That is quit a big spider for Europe standards Susanne, we had lots of them in our cellar in Germany when i was young, and much fatter to... I am not a spider-fan myself to, but why kill it, everything has its place in nature, so i throw them out. In Holland we say, that a spider in the house brings luck... I remember from about 10 years ago or so, that i was at the house of my brother in law from that time. A friend of him was there to, and he lived in the same appartment block. He went away shortly, and was back in 10 minutes or so, with something black and big on his hand. It was a big birdspider, which he placed on the low salon-table just in front of me. Of course this horse-sized thing walked in my direction slowly, and when he was about 20 cm's away, i asked this friend friendly to turn the spider around, otherwise he would have a very different model in a very short time, as i held a book in my hands... By the way, the name tarantula is still abused for this group of bird-spiders. The name tarantula came from a wolfspider from the Mediteranian Islands of Italy, which is significant smaller. Because of his special movements when the male is preparing to mate, the italians named even a folklore-dance after this spider. And actually, the name bird-spider is not even very correct, although some bigger species manage to catch a bird(probably sleeping) sometimes... The birds are more danger to this spider-group, then the other way around...
