| I like very much the old Britains and BF models, I'm a big fan of the Kitan club and Bandaï ostriches too. So what ? I never felt comfortable with Major brands ostriches and none of them really impressed me. I was still waiting for my ostrich, the one which can stand on the podium. A few days ago, I spent a quater of an hour in a PicWic Toy shop, comparing Papo and Schleich figures. I thought I will leave without spending money and I was wrong. Some new Schleich convinced me to make more place on my shelves. The new ostrich was one of them. I don't have the Papo at home, It always seems to stocky for my taste. Bullyland have no modern ostrich and so is Mojo. Some members here have the CollectA one and their comments were really interesting and some nearly convinced me to buy one as the best model available now. I must tell it was by default. So I only have the previous Schleich and the Safari Ltd. A few words about the Safari Ltd one: Despite the pose, I preferred this one to the old Schleich because of the quality of sculpting, especially for the legs and head. Things have changed with the new Schleich: The pose is nice, the details are fine, the legs are really good, the base is simple and efficient, the anatomy is realistic and the head is nearly as good as the Safari ltd one. What to tell more ? A few pics maybe ?

| Yep, I hope it won't take 5,6 female models first to produce a decent one, like they did with males _________________ Robert

| That's a very nice ostrich, I agree. Schleich made in 2015 their best tiger of ever and now, the best Schleich ostrich of ever. I find particularly legs much better and number of nails is correct. :) I have the old with open beak and 3 nails, very funny but far from realistic. I also have the Britains with moveable neck, the sumptuous Lineol and the CollectA. Although I don't need more ostriches, I find it a very recomendable one. |

| Great walkaround , with great photos and comparison :) Thank you for that. I agree with everyone....the only thing which I don`t like is the choice of base. The way how they made it, looks like a part of the legs... Watching your wonderful photos, I think the Schleich 14610 Ostrich looks very good. :) |

| Thanks for beautiful pictures and comparison photos. This new model is slimmer and nicer than the retired ones. the painting is good also. I hope we will get a new female next year, and perhaps chickens too! Very nice, Schleich. It is interesting to see him with the Safari (female?) |

| Very nice! Everyone is beating me making the comparrisons I was looking forward to posting the same thing Kikimalou Still, first in, first served I guess, and NZ is last. There won't be any comparrisons left to make by the time I get mine I think that the ostrich is a huge improvement on the last one, I'm looking forward to getting it! |

Females are generaly brown, males are black and their necks are often "blue" or "red". I found a good picture on the left you can see the male, on the right a female. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.](These represent the south african subspecies, the somalian ostrich also has a blue neck, the north african and massai ostrich do have red necks) |

| Then I have only male ostriches and they are stored in the same shoebox. They always lies in a disordered mass when I open it. They must be fighting a lot when I don't look! Roger and Bryan: I have never thought about it was a difference in colour between males and females , but now I am more educated. |

Roger and Bryan: I have never thought about it was a difference in colour between males and females , but now I am more educated. We are all being educated, I visited the ostrich page on TAI and I have found some ambiguous ostriches, among them some females. All pictures from Toy Animal Wiki. | Wow, really nice Ostrich. It's definitely on my list. I've been really happy with many Schleich figures this year, and I still have the Ostrich and Tiger to look forward to. Wonderful Walkaround Christophe!! Thank you! - costicuba wrote:

The way how they made it, looks like a part of the legs... I had exactly this thought. It's the only thing about the model that disappoints me slightly. I will learn to ignore it of course, but it's not ideal. |

Go for it, it is far better IMHO - Roger wrote:

No Anna, the black is the same, the white is maybe less white and the head and legs are better painted, especially the head - Tove wrote:

It is interesting to see him with the Safari (female?) I hope Schelcih will make a nice female and a chick's batch like the Mallard and swan ones - Emma wrote:

What can I say about the base, I don't know if there is a consensual way of making ratites legs. Fat legs and big feet? Thin legs and complete basis like the older Schleich or something like the Safari Ltd and the new Schleich? The most important for me is the legs are thin enough |
