As I know Dortmund had a young this year and also Yenko, a little orangutan who need to love. I know Yenko. His mother, Miri was born and lived in Hungary(Budapest). When she became adult girl she moved to Hannover. She lived long time with an infertile male, Kajan. Now there is an other male in Hannover who is the father of Yenko. Sadly, Miri died when Yenko was very young and EEP searched a new mother for him. Toba the female in Dortmund, lost her baby in that time, so when Yenko and Toba met at 1st time, Toba adopted him at that moment. So, now they are mother and child. Sadly, Walter, the male Orangutan of Dortmund, broken his tiny arm, when keepers did try to integrate the little one to the group. It looks horrible, but already, he learnt to live only with 1 arm. Yenko is second child of Miri. Her 1st son, Vendel lives in Basel. :) |

| I'm back from my German holiday. I could visit the zoo of Münster. Unfortunately I arrived after 2 o'clock, I could spend there only two hours. I saw only 1/3 part of the zoo. The weather was horrible, wind, rain, snow, rain, snow.... So I watched only the important animals(for me): gorillas, orangutans, gaurs... I started in the orangutan house. The group looked healthy and relaxed. There is a man and he has 4 wives and 2 little kids. Pongo the man is wonderful, big and he has very healthy fur. The two mothers, Nonja(daughter: Niah) and Mandi(son: Mr. Miagi) spent their times with their babies. Sari was eating and Temmy was relaxing. Orangutans share their enclosure with otters. Next stop was the gorilla house... when I arrived keepers fed the gorillas. But the view not was, which I did reckon. The gorillas looks bad and the indoor was very very dark. (It was hard to take photos.) I knew Changa Maidi and his older son, Thabo are bald gorillas. But they were not only bald, they were thin/skinny too. Changa's little son, Demba has nice coat. He is two years old, and he is always doing something. A kind little boy. ShaSha is the newest member of the group. She arrived from Howletts(England) few years ago. She also has a little kid. The baby is Jamila. A sweet little girl. Unfortunately ShaSha prefer to spend her time out of the group, so she ensconced herself and her daughter to the passageways, behind the scene. Fatima the old lady is very fat. Too fat. I think she is around 150kgs. This is the weight of two healthy female. She has lot of injuries on her back. N'Kwango the silverback of the group also looks so bad. He lost lot of weight and lost his fur from his arms. I think N'Kwango in not more than 170kgs now. Normal weight of an adult silverback is 200kgs. My last stop was the gaur enclosure. Fortunately it was near to the gorilla and orangutan house. There are two gaur girls in Münster. Both are wonderful. I love very much Gaurs from long time ago but to met them in live... they are unbelieveable! Unfortunately Bongos and Elands was closed when I arrived to their enclosure. ... and photos PONGO [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]NONJA [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]NIAH [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] MANDI [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] MR. | Seems to be a nice small holiday :) The Gorillas also have a "wintergarden" between the outside enclosure and the smaller, old indoor cage, have you seen it? It could be also interesting for you, that at the end of this year the indoor area from the gorillas will getting an upgrade. Ah, so the Gaurs was in the left enclosure. On my visit they was in the right enclosure and the left enclosure is much better for photographs _________________ Find me on Instagram

| Thank You very much for Everybody! :)
Maybe the problem is psychical in the gorilla family. Maybe too much stress in the group. I saw they got enough food so not this is the cause. But ShaSha flees from the other group members, Fatima also sat farther from the rest of the group. And the other three are skinny and bald. Or maybe bald gorillas are allergic for something.
With the old lady. She maybe has hormonal problems or maybe she got medicines long time ago and this is the side effect of them.
Yes, I saw wintergarten too. Only Changa and her sons stayed there a short time. |
