| To Mods - if this topic is in incorrect section, feel free to move it!Recently I've became very interested in these unusual models - so much that I'm saving now to buy my first one! :) A bit of history and basic info: Julip Horses Ltd was established in the UK in 1945 - that makes it the oldest model horse company, older even than Breyer They make horses in 1:12 scale, which are still produces the same way - natural latex is cast in a plaster mould. Models also have wired legs which allows them to be repositioned slightly. Their manes and tails are haired, either with synthetic hair or mohair. There have been dozens of various moulds, some are no longer produced, some are still available. In 1980s a new line was introduced - Julip Horse of the Year (so called Julip HOTY), which consisted of cheaper (and stiffer) models made of vinyl. The latex models were renamed and relaunched as Julip Originals. In late 2013 the company was split into two separate and independent ones: - Julip Horses Ltd. producing vinyl Julip HOTY models (website) - Julip Originals producing latex models (website) Forum also known as J-Club :) LINK Julip HOTY cost around £18 for a single horse or £30 or a horse and rider set. Julip Originals can be purchased in two ways: - as special order, where you can choose mould, colour, markings and even some minor customisation (e.g. wire in neck or slightly repositioned head). The basic price is from £17.50 for a foal up to £47.50 for an adult horse. Each customisation costs additional £5. - as so-called spare - every few months the company announces a sale of batch of randomly made models. This option is cheaper, as they're usually sold for basic price of a mould, but you don't have as much influence on the details of your model. Also, Julip Originals were initially sold as toys but now, due to safety regulations and material they're made of (latex) they can't be legally sold to anyone under 14, so now they're collector items. These models are not very popular but they have some very dedicated fans and collectors. They're also not as realistic as Breyers (not to mention Artist Resins models) but they are definitely charming and cute! A few photos First of all, Julip archive, where you can browse through photos of various moulds, both current and vintage: https://smg.photobucket.com/user/juliparchive/library The smallest and the tallest of currently produced adult horses (Pit Pony and Hunter moulds) Contasts by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr Poseability (New Forest Pony mould) Danny by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr Gavin and Danny by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr Same mould, one with customised head set (Mustang mould) Quinn by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr They can also open their mouth (or at least hold things there), which means they can use "real" bits, unlike Breyers! (Cob Mare mould) Cob Mare (needs name) by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr Some collections are big - apparently, you can never stop after just one or a couple of them, they multiply quickly and to large numbers! Julips! by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr Lakeland Julip Show 2014 by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr There are also some other animals produced - like dogs: Lily, Simon, Bruce, Bob (The Blob) and Gryff by Elrenia_Greenleaf, on Flickr There are also cats, rabbits, foxes and pheasants :) _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |

| Excellent presentation of that horse models company! It is very interesting and this info will surely be used to Toy Animal Wiki. I think horse is the most replicated animal in toy shape, thus, it doesn't wonder so many horse specialized brands. In my particular case, it is exciting to know that there are some foxes. Thanks for your great topic and please keep us updated about your Julip collection. |

| @Roger - if you want to use some of Elrenia Greenfield's photos on the Wiki, I can ask her for permission for you Here's how foxes look like: http://j-club.proboards.com/thread/787/lot-foxes-00-75-sold I can ask Lorraine (current owner) for the price and shipping to Portugal if you're interested _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |

| I forgot about HOTYs! XD Here are some current examples (promo photos): As I already mentioned before, they're stiffer and cheaper than Originals. Also, there are some Original moulds which used to be HOTY moulds before: Arabian (HOTY Arab Champion) Clydesdale Foal (HOTY Ted) Mustang (HOTY Family Pony, I believe) Sports Horse (HOTY Moondance) Working Hunter (HOTY Cob - still used) _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |

I can ask Lorraine (current owner) for the price and shipping to Portugal if you're interested Thanks Magda, I opened a little page on Toy Animal Wiki completed based in this topic. :) It can be interesting if we have permission to use pictures but the ideal was to have someone contributing directly at the Wiki. Specially a collector of the brand. Thanks for showing these foxes, they're quite simple like the most recent horses, actually, it looks like the same character in different poses. Please ask their price, I probably can't afford them now but is serves as a reference to a future acquisition. |

| Great topic, I never heard of this brand and I'm still not a horse model collector but I like very much discovering new brands especially when the style is so toyish and charming |

| I've placed an order for my first Julip! Due to the process of their creating I might need to wait even 1,5 month before I get it, but once it's in my hands I'll make sure to add some photos and comments _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |

| I just got an update regarding my Julip - apparently, it's out of the mould and is now being made smooth which may take a while. I'm so excited, although I haven't seen it yet! XD _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |

| Here he is! He's exactly as I imagined him to be when I ordered him! For now I'll show you Laura's photo I've received upon his completion, hopefully I'll take some more this weekend :) He is supposed to be silver brown-ish He's based on my starter horse from the game called Star Stable. All starter horses in this game are made-up breed called Jorvik Warmblood. Since the game is created in Scandinavia (Sweden), I've decided to make him Scandinavian as well. I did some research, and now he's a Finnish x Estonian silver brown gelding. I've named him Silverboy, after my horse in game. Now I need to get him some rider/handler and hopefully some tack as well! And some Julip company, of course! _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |

| Thanks! He's indeed adorable in person! I already know I need more of those bendy ponies! Also, more photos to come as soon as I have some time to breathe (moving flats and full time work doesn't really allow that...) ^.^ _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |

| My second Julip will be on his way here soon! Here's Thaddeus, a modern type Friesian stallion (American Quarter Horse mould): (photo by Laura) He'll be given mohair featherings once he's here. I just need to pay for him first XD _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) Blog | Facebook |
