PostSubject: Re: Newt's paintings   Newt's paintings EmptyTue Dec 08, 2015 11:46 pm

These are very beautiful! Amazing colours, details, textures, everything well defined by delikate brush strokes. I love especially the  squirrel and the Yonahlossee salamander, that salamander has inredible colours, so subtle and unique I love you its name is almost as unique as the colours btw Very Happy
It's interesting to see you painted all your models always on a white background, interesting choice. in case of squirrel it feels almost as it sits on snow, probably tiniest shadow on white surface would build the whole snow scene on this picture Smile

Holy moly those are all awesome, thanks for sharing them! The first one made me a cry a little, until a few months ago I had a young Tiger salamander but it got ill and I wasn't able to save it unfortunately. But the attention to detail in your art is stunning, wonderful works of art! cheers

Thank you very much!

Anna - I have a bad habit of not painting backgrounds. I'm trying to get away from that, Here in the southeastern USA we have many beautiful salamanders! The Yonahlossee lives in the southern Appalachian Mountains, home of the Cherokee tribe; I believe "Yonahlossee" is a Cherokee place-name.

Saarlooswolfhound - I'm sorry for your loss. Tigs are fun pets!

Thank you Karin!

I'm currently working on a very large (for me) oil painting of a mosasaur. Hopefully I will have some progress to show soon.

I think I mentioned a while back, on the ATF, that I really like your paintings. Very Happy

I look forward to seeing how your mosasaur goes, as well as any future painting or sculpture projects.

Some of you may have see the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I made. I'm now working on the painting for which I made the maquette. Progress so far:

First, an acrylic underpainting, just to cover the white canvas and see if the basic composition looks OK.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Then, the first layer of oil paint, mainly phthalo blue.

Thanks Andy, Susanne, and VS! Here's the finished painting - at least for now, there's a lot of stuff I want to fix.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

VS - No, I'm definitely not a pro. Maybe someday!

I love your latest works. What a nice and subtle way to show the surroundings and natural environment of those species. I like how you paint without adding too many effects where they are not necessary. That way we can focus on the animals which are more detailed. The light is also painted wonderfully, especially on the turtle face. Very Happy
