| The Schleich male tiger's been living in my office for the last couple years, but lately his color doesn't thrill me like it used to. Time for a repaint! But wait, you say. A tiger's a tiger, and can't really be made to look like any other kind of cat. So what kind of drastic new look could he possibly get? Well, this is what I came up with: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Everyone's heard of white tigers, but I - not being a big cat expert - had no idea there were other options. The color's called golden tabby, and as you can see it fades the black stripes to red, while extending the white areas along the flanks, legs, and face. (Apologies if this is well known by everyone except me!) Obviously, my guy isn't completely done, still needs work on his legs and tail. He looks very dramatic next to my "ordinary" cheapo repaint... |

| There was a show was on Animal Palnet called "Awesome Pawsome", about the Taronga Zoo(Australia), and they featured 3 tiger cubs, one having the golden coat color and stripe pattern. If you could, I would like to see that golden paint job on a Papo tiger. |

| It is beautyful, Sumo ! I did not know about that colour either. When that is said, I think we (humans) should consider very, very carefully before breeding the large and rare species to look unlike the natural creature. They are not pigeons or pussycats, but endangered and our main objective must be to save them as they are in the wild. The white tigers are so much praised, children really beleive that a Siberian Tiger is white !!!!! I heard a while ago that the lion is endagered also. Even if there are so many, the different sub-species have been crossed as well meaning people cought lions and moved them long distances where they bred with local ones. Sorry, maybe I should not send this. Or maybe it is for us in this forum, who are mainly lovers of all animals, to consider what Man does to wild animals. And, Sumo, you made me think, cross in the calendar Auch, it hurts |

| We always called them blonde tigers, it is an amelenistic color form where the black is missing and replaced by a lack of color giving it a red appearace. Just like white tigers, they are close to albino but not, white tigers have black stripes and blue eyes, albino tigers have red stripes and pink eyes.
Susanne, while I agree wiht you, there arew so many tigers in captivity that they will never go extinct, at some point (possibly very soon) they may not be found in the wild but you can buy a tiger for about $700 right now and most zoos don't even breed them except to have kittens for the "cute" factor of having baby cats. This is the way it is for most conservation projects, they focus on animals that are pleasing to humans and don't even talk or consider animals that have no aestetic value. The most endangered cat is a small house cat sized Japanese cat called the iriomote cat, there may be as few as only 100 left total but try to find any funding or information on conservation for that species. It looks like a dark house cat and there is almost no "cute" value in it, while tigers are majestic and lots of people want to see them so if you publicize the fact that they are endangered (even though there are so many in captivity) people donate. This is actually a good thing in the big picture though because all of the other animals that share the habitat will be saved if they protect the areas. Still, the reason people play around with the genetics of a species is because they have the numbers of individual animals to be able to do it. In reality zoos and private or conservation efforts protect the genetics of truly endangered animals to as close to wild types as possible.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly! Preserving genetic diversity is one thing, but breeding for anything other than physical and mental health scares the bejeezus out of me. I've seen enough results of equine and canine color and size breeding to feel very sceptical about the whole thing. All the same, one major benefit with models is that you can create animals like this with no ill effects... in fact I'm thinking of painting some other non-standard colors as well, such as the "blue" (ie grey) tiger coloring that's still unconfirmed. Maybe I'll even go all out and do some purely speculative colors! Don't you think a chocolate brown lion would look rather spectacular? |

| Very nice repaint and thank You for info about animals! I didn't know about this coloration of tiger before. It's great to know something new about animals almost everyday here :) About speculative colors, I think it may be nice and funny, maybe some zebra pattern animals like well known this year Schleich collection? For example zebra orang-utan And other non standard colors, I think I've seen many "made in china" violet tigers and green elephants and all colors of rainbow kangaroos |
