| Here is a better photo of the modification I did of one of my Schleich kudu. At one point I had 3 adults and 2 young, but I send a pair to Ana last week. As many of you remember from my antelope collection I have modified one of them so the head is down and he is browsing or maybe I'll end up with another one and the two will be fighting, I haven't decided. Here is a photo now that he is painted, I think I have to wash out the white, it doesn't really match the rest of the animal because it is so bright but otherwise I am happy with the color match. | He's fabulous, you've done an excellent job on it, Phil. The colour matches the rest of him perfectly, I think it's a good idea to dull the white a little too, but it really is great! _________________ Harriet My *Collection* My *Handmade Animal Sculpture*

| Sure looks the same to me, like it's sawed in half, glued, rebuild and repainted. Whatever is the case, excellent work... _________________ Robert

| Robert is correct Susanne, I cut it off at the shoulder and just under the jaw and made a new neck in that position. I was originally going to make a feeding pose. Kudu browse not graze, feeding on the scrub, new growth, and twigs growing off the ground, they are not grass eaters so they feed on the ends of low tree branches and bushes so this may make his position on the diorama very easy as I have lots of bushes he can feed from. The other idea was to make another one and do the same so I could have the two of them fighting, I may at some point do that but for now I am happy with my first idea. |

| That is actually the best remould I have seen Phil. That is brilliant. The model does not look awkward in any way as what often happens with remoulds (in my opinion). The Kudu is bending its neck down but with a slight turn and it looks great....
Can you remould my Kudu like that exactly the same way?! he he |

| I am glad everyone likes it. The cut and removal of the neck was easy, making the base of the neck and pose was also easy. To make the pose I just put the bulk of the clay on the body, attached the head then moved the neck clay down and to the side until the head looked natural. Higher and lower the head has a very strange angle so it looked funny, same with the neck forward, just looking forward made the head at such a strange angle that I actually almost started over, but then with just a slight twist the head moved to the position you see in the photo.
The difficult part came from making the fur pattern and matching the colors. That took so much time I am rethinking doing another one, but if you are serious Schleichzoo, PM me and we can discuss a future project. But rather then you sending me yours I would just buy one and modify it, the kudu probably costs as much as the postal fees to send yours. |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] That is funny that you ask, Saturday I was thinking of something new to add to Africa and that was one of the ones that made the list! I will have to think about it because I have so many to do that it will be a while before I decide. I love the Schleich drinking pose, but like the elephants, he is way too small for my scale. The other giraffe scene I was thinking was to add a larger one in a similar pose and have a mother/calf drinking, that way I could keep the Schleich one on the diorama. We'll see what I decide, Ana is working on a couple of figures right now, and I know I want to replace the Schleich gnu with white tail gnu, maybe 3 or 4 of them feeding. That is not even taking into consideration all of the Indian wildlife that is still to be done, so I have a lot of time to decide what I want to do with the giraffe. |
