- There is a little confusion about the differences between three small south American cats: Pantanal cat, Colocolo and Pampas cat.
Some scientists think that they are different species while others think they are only one with these three different subspecies. There are additional problems considering that each one has itself multiple geographical variations in size and coloration, apart from the problem of frequent interbreed between them and with other species For the Felidae Family Project I am going to consider This three models:
PANTANAL CAT (Leopardus braccatus): the smallest and rarest from all of them. I am going to choose the brown fur variation with dark brown spots on the flanks. The replica should be close to 2.3 cm Head&Body plus 1.5 cm tail. This is the best photo I could find, although I presume the color of the eyes is not real. PAMPAS CAT (Leopardus pajeros): the biggest of tem. The replica head&body length will be 3.2 cm and a relatively short tail of 1.5 cm. Probably I am going to choose the greyish pelage with distinct dark brown stripes on the legs and spots on the underparts, a plain tail (no clear rings), and at most indistinct dark lines on the flanks. This photo will guide me: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
COLOCOLO (Leopardus colocolo): a spotted and striped cat slightly smaller than the Pampas Cat. The replica will be 3 cm Head&Body plus 2 cm tail. I´ll will try to be guided by this photo : [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
So, this topic is for the Pantanal Cat which is the one I am going to start with…. Previously I made models for Pantanal Cat and Colocolo. Now this topic is for Pampas Cat which is the one I am going to start with…. |
