DeAgostini Dinosaurs Empty
PostSubject: DeAgostini Dinosaurs   DeAgostini Dinosaurs EmptyThu Apr 07, 2016 6:06 am

Hello, my friends! So, today I was cleaning up my attic and found a box filled with some of the toys I used to play with. Among them were this dinosaur figures that I had completely forgotten about until today. They are not exactly scientifically accurate, but are not terrible figures either. The material they´re made out of is not bad, and all they got over the years is a bit of paint wear. I´m glad I found them again!

However, I do not know the brand that made them. They have their names written on their bellies, but not the name of any brand. I assume that they must belong to some collection. But which one, I don´t know.  The fact that I don´t remember buying them means that I got them when I was very young. I usually remember where and when I bought my figures.

So, here they are:

Ouranosaurus

Cetiosaurus

Maiasaura

Carnotaurus

Pelicamimus

Herrerasaurus
DeAgostini Dinosaurs 20160407_173449_zps51mlzrlz

Could anyone help me know more about them? Thank you in advance!  Very Happy

I don't recognize them, although the Pelicanimimus is a pretty big score!

Have you tried at the Dino Toy Forum? I posted a picture there; someone might know and tell me.

Or just join STS and tell you!

Uh, I was expecting Sean could identify them. I tried to find them in non STS sources and I thought it was easier once those are not the most common dinos, but I ahven't found anything. DTF will help you for sure, if not, you have a rarity! Laughing

PostSubject: Re: DeAgostini Dinosaurs   DeAgostini Dinosaurs EmptyThu Apr 07, 2016 2:24 pm

Yes, they're from Planeta DeAgostini. My understanding is that they were sold by mail order in the 1990s along with a subscription to magazines/booklets featuring the same artwork. There were at least 50. Planeta DeAgostini is currently marketing another subscription dinosaur series, but it's much more cartoony, like Dinosaur Train.

PostSubject: Re: DeAgostini Dinosaurs   DeAgostini Dinosaurs EmptyThu Apr 07, 2016 10:25 pm

Thank you, everyone, for helping me with this mystery! Very Happy So these are DeAgostini models... and they were released in the nineties? That explains why I can´t remember buying them. I was born in 97, so yeah, my parents must have picked up a few of them when I was a really young child. I can´t believe I called the Indosuchus an Herrerasaurus! lol! I must say, DeAgostini wasn´t afraid of making some VERY obscure dinosaur species, especially the Pelicanimimus! I can only compliment them for their boldness. Applause

Also, now that I look at the artwork and figures Takama has posted, I think that the Huayangosaurus figure was in my box too! I´m not sure, but after I go back to my attic and search better, I will come back and tell you all! Very Happy

Very interesting, these figures are great actually and very nice species. I have a very vague idea about them but I thought they were from Salvat Editores. Maybe both collections existed, I can't be sure. scratch

I think that these are, indeed, two separate collections, Roger. From the little I know about them, some of the Salvat dinosaurs were figures that were copied from Schleich and other companies. There were differences, such as the paint job, but the figure itself was the same. They are not considered rip-offs, though. From what I´ve seen, some of the Salvat dinosaurs actually improved the figure they copied by having a better color scheme. Plus, they are so rare! It makes them a nice collection just by the fact they are so obscure. Very Happy

That´s all I know about them. As for this ones, they are surely a different collection. The style is different, the way of naming them is different (it seems that the Salvat dinosaurs actually have both their names and "Salvat Editores" written underneath them, while these ones have only the species name) and the company that sold them is a different one too. Two obscure and different dino collections, but both of them had one thing in common: they made figures of some very unusual dinosaur species.

If you have Dinosauriana, you will know that all Planeta De Agostini figures are marked with De Agostini and the name of the dino.

I only have the Tyrannosaurus.

Will try to take a pic of its belly in the weekend.

Here's the figure:

DeAgostini Dinosaurs DeAgostini%20Tyrannosaurus_zpswv2flvpx

I encountered knock offs in Baguio, with only the names of the dinos printed. Luckily, I have the Dinosauriana on my cell phone last January. BTW the Dinosauriana has been updated just a few days ago. Thanks Joe! Very Happy

Thank you for the information you provided, docronnie! And thank you for posting the whole collection, Takama! Wink

Very interesting... this line is certainly unique. Much like the Salvat dinosaurs, they have a charming collector value. Some of the dinosaurs don´t really fit to my taste, but I give credit for this collection for not being afraid of including some VERY obscure species. Also, is the purple theropod a Tarbosaurus? A shame I didn´t have that one among the others, that is a very cool-looking figure.

Great fun to see this topic again ! Shocked
During the +/- four years since it was started, my interest in prehistoric models has grown, so now I can see how charmingly old fashioned some of them are Very Happy
I also like the nynamics of some of them, - turning their head, stretching the neck after an insec etc Applause
