COLLECTA 2017: WILDLIFE - African Lion (88782) & White Lion (88785)

So here are the first wildlife reveals for CollectA 2017 (this is more my area!).  It was time to overhaul the current model and I took the opportunity to suggest a Barbary Lion. I have long wanted us to have one of these made and it would have been a perfect addition to the collection.  Unfortunately, the decision was taken (which I respect) to fulfil a request by a long term supplier in Africa to create a model on the SouthWest African Lion species and here it is.  

I did not realise that a white lion would be made but as with most brands it is just a matter of repainting the existing mould.

The sculpt is based on a fully mature male lion but it is important to note that this particular species does not have as big a mane or hair as Barbary lion or some of the other sub-species.

A handsome, proud model which I like very much.

Was hoping for an 'upgrade' of the lions (and tigers as well as some forest animals) so they can better compete with the other brands.

Wow, this is a wonderful lion! First I was unsure if I like it, but looking at these bigger pictures it's almost perfect, in my opinion the eyes may be a little too large. And even not beeing a fan of it, I love the white coloration! Crossing my fingers that it won't be too big.
Will there also be a new lioness? And I belive that there won't be too many other Wildlife figures this year? Can't wait to see the tiger.

No lioness and cubs unfortunately.......and not a large wildlife selection unfortunately....time just wasnt on our side!

Thank you for the reply, so hopefully we'll have a new one on the next year. Too bad, but maybe better for my wallet Can't wait till next week.

Edit: Does anyone know his height?

A nice and naturalistic lion figure. I like it !! (maybe the eyes are too big?. but anyway it is a good figure )

much better than their old one! I might like it even more than Papo's but Id have to see it in other angles.

also if it had been a Barbary lion wouldnt it essentially be a figure of an extinct species(or subspecies in this case)? Maybe thats why they didnt go with that choice. I wonder if we'll get any recently extinct animals like the thylacine for 2016.

Despite not being a Barbary lion, it has a very generous mane, somethat like the Papo king of the jungle and clearly different from Mojö's. CollectA 3rd generationlion is clearly a great figure!

The choice of species was chosen specifically buy a regular supplier hence it choice - I tried to go for the Barbary lion. Yes whilst the true Barbary is extinct, there are still remnants of its gene pool in existing lions. Google it and you will come across many lions with the huge thick dark mane and extra hairs on the underbelly.....

This pose reminds of the handsome Mufasa standing on a rock looking over his kingdom....woops a Disney moment....

Le lion africain me semble parfait.
Dommage que vous n'ayez pas produit la lionne et les lionceau qui vont avec.
Une lionne de la même qualité aurait été formidable.
La marque Collecta prouve encore une fois qu'elle peut être la meilleure.
Le jour viendra peut être ou elle sortira les familles d'animaux en entier avec la même qualité que ces deux lions,ce jours la, elle sera incontestablement la meilleure des grandes marques de figurines animales.

I quite like these two. I wish that they would have made his mane a little bit darker, it would be a nice contrast but its a nice model nonetheless. Perhaps a new family is coming?

The African lion sounds perfect.
Too bad you did not produce the lioness and cub that go with it.
A lioness of the same quality would have been great.
Collecta the brand proves once again that she can be the best.
The day will come or it can be released to the families around the animals with the same quality as the two lions, that the days, it will undoubtedly be the best brands of animal figurines.

hm,..i still prefer the mojo lions. I'd like to see a picture of it's face though the eye issue is really obvious. But common. nd indeed: More efforts for a lioness please. A couple of Barbary lions is history, icon and tragedy at once. Majestic and cultural,...
