COLLECTA 2017: WILDLIFE - Secretary Bird (88796)

So here is my exciting reveal of the week - the secretary bird!

CollectA have listened following many comments on the forum over the last few years where many have requested this bird.  It was planned for 2016 but did not make it in time.  It took time to sculpt to try and perfect as much as possible.  We had planned to have this bird standing on a small base but unfortunately it was not possible due to the very thin legs.  The choice was to either thicken the legs and have them on a stand which would have not been proportionally correct OR create accurately thin legs but have something between them.

I am never a fan of birds with grass between their legs or stuck to other objects but sometimes you cannot have everything and both quality, child safety and material restrictions have to be taken into consideration which is why this model have a small section of grass between it's legs. One other constraint issue was regarding the 'crest' of feathers on the head. I had hoped for these to be erect and surrounding the head like a crown but due to their delicate nature these had to be dropped down a little - it was a shame at the time but I have no issue with it now as I think it still looks great!

I think it is a handsome African bird of prey and I hope many of you will like it.

The only other one I have seen is the one from the Japanese company where it is sold as part of a box set (I cannot remember the brand name).

First a Kiwi, then a Shoebill, now a secretary Bird-thank you,Collecta. So good to have a brand that knows, the birdworld has more to offer than ducks, pelicans, penguins and eagles....

Excellent species choice, very exciting to see it in person. I love all of these new large predatory birds we are seeing from all the brands.

It's amazing to see that this species also has made it, finnaly we have an Secretary from a major brand. I love the sculpture bjt that grass on the legs just makes it look strange, maybe it would have been a better idea to put a log, grass or whatever behind it. But anyway great work, hope it has a good size.

Great bird Santa CollectA strikes back every year I'm also not a fan of the herbs between the legs but I prefer this to thick legs (like Papo flamingo).

CollectA sculpts are also better each year I think.

Beautieful bird, but i hoped for a new (in figurine) specie :)

I always suspsected this bird was in Numaan cogitations and it is fantastic to see it made by a major company.

Congratulations wonderful figure, no fan of herbs between the legs, I would have preferred as starlux and colorata with a snakes in the paws.

very nice, also not a fan of Collecta's habit of the grass/rock b/w legs for birds but I get why they do it.

Using a snake as a base instead of the grass triangle would have been perfect.
Now it's just almost perfect.

I am happy that there is not a snake

And I think it is great that the legs won't bend

Also, as a toy, I think it is more fun with only one animal in a model.
