| Wow, I haven't done one of these in a long time! This month's SUY is Arabians and Part-Arabians! Arabians are such an iconic horse breed, one that is easily recognized by even non-horse people. This historic breed's beautiful dished face and swanlike neck really stand out from any other breed. The Arabian Horse Association recognizes Arabs in the colors of bay, grey, chestnut, black, and sabino/rabicano. Purebred Arabs do not produce pinto patterns (including tobiano, overo/frame, etc.), spotted patterns, or dilutes (duns, palomino, cremello, buckskin, etc.). This is where the Part-Arab comes in. Part-Arab is a term simply used to describe Arabian crosses. The most notable crosses are Anglo-Arabians, which are crosses between Arabians and Thoroughbreds; Morabs, crosses between Arabians and Morgans; Araloosas, crosses between Arabians and Appaloosas; and Pintabians, crosses between Arabians and Paint horses. Half-Arab is another common term among Part-Arabs, of course used to describe horses where the sire and dam are purebred Arabians and another breed (whether it be an American Paint Horse, Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, what have you.) Your typical Arabian horse has a refined, wedge-shaped head, also known as a "dished" profile. They have broad foreheads, large eyes, large nostrils, and small muzzles. Many have a slight bulge between the eyes, which is called the jibbah by the Bedouin. Arabs also have arched necks and long, level croups with naturally high tail carriage. Arabs typically stand between 14.1 to 15.1 hands high. Arabs are a very versatile breed, often used in activities such as reining, endurance riding, and racing. There are several different types of Arabians, including the Egyptian Arabian, Polish Arabian, Domestic Arabian, Crabbet Arabian, Russian Arabian, Spanish Arabian. Shagya Arabians are not consider "pure" Arabs (as per the World Arabian Horse Organization), but they do have a closed studbook and a special status within the WAHO. There is a wealth of information about the different types of Arabians here if you would like to read more. Alright, enough of the education Let's see your Arabs and Part-Arabs! | I have never seen those Schleich Koblischek arabs, will have to find one to give (force?) upon my mom... she still has a few real ones, used to breed them, and has many of the Breyers, the older ones anyhow. She had a couple Peter Stones, but sold all but a broken Chip. She scoffed at my toys, but now has a growing collection of Arabs and random things. I keep meaning to get her that endurance Stablemate, and keep missing it. She's had her share of fleabitten greys, so one like the one on the right in LeeAnn's photo- one day! |

| I too loved the Susecion and LeFire- some of the figures my mom used to have that she sold when money got tight.
Hmm, maybe I can find something to trade, Susanne, or I could pay for shipping... she has the Safari stallion and foal like Sortepletter's (only bays), Ana's Mojo pregnant mare, the beautiful CollectA chestnut mare, but no Schleichs have yet met her standards. (I do have a newish Schleich Arab, she didn't approve)
The photo of the Koblischek very much reminds me of some old photos of Russian and Polish studs. |

| My Arabians from Bullyland The horses from Bullyland do not have the elegance of most other brands. They are toys, and safe to play with. But - to me , at least - they have a special charm [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Ups ! I forgot this funny guy [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| I have quite a few Arabians in my collection, although I don't have photos of the majority of them. I want to take pictures of the rest when the weather improves. My Schleich Arabian mare and foal.
