| My family and I had a great day visiting the Bronx Zoo in New York. Great day for the visit. Sorry the photos are not the best but my phone camera could not zoom in as much as my camera could. For an urban zoo, one of the biggest in US, it has great selection of animals. I hope you like them. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] _________________ Shawn

| Thanks everyone. What I found great was the herd of Nyala which you don't see much except in the large animal parks. Also, the tram that went around the Wold of Asia was fantastic! Such unique animals. _________________ Shawn

| Unfortunately, the Bronx Zoo has just a famous name, but the zoo itself is not really a good one. Just a few examples. All animals in the Tropicla house"Jungle World" do not have outdoor exhibits, incluidng malayan tapirs, all monekey and Leopards. The leoaprds live in very small, aquarium-like glass cage, the tapir exhibit is just a tiny beach without nothing in it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Jungle World is one of the worst" animal hosues I've ever seen in my live. The Grey-Zebras are kept on grass-a species, what comes from dry habitats in the wild. So they have over grown hooves, and, when it is rainy, they have to be stay in the barn to protect the grass from the zebras weight..Really good. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]They keep several Indian Rhinos, but they have only one outdoor exhibit. Because thy are solitary animals, only one of them can use the exhibit, while the others have to stay in the barn or in tiny paddocks clsoe to the barn-not visable to visitors. Same with Okapir-and their exhibit is very small. It looks good, but it is not good. All the asian animals can be seen only from a Monorail during may and october. In the rest of the year, the exhibit is closed, and the barns are not open to the public... Of course, the Bronx-Zoo has some really good exhibits and its not a bad zoo, but he is not that good, whats his famous name promise. I can only say-look closer, if you vist a zoo. |

| Those are interesting observations. Surely Zoos improved a lot from what they were several years ago, but they are surely not as wonderful as we think. A lot to do yet in this industry. |
