The great Cave Bear 55066 from Papo 2017 :-D

Strangely , there aren't that many models of cave bears around.
It was a truely amazing creature, and I would have thought that the book "Clan of the Cave Bear" might have mde this animal popular, - but of course it is not a book for small children  

The other reason I can think of, why there aren't many models made is, that a model may just look like a brown bear.
But THIS bear from Papo does certainly not look like an ordinary bear

Here he is together with the old Schleich cave bear, which looks like a true monster , and his great-great-grand-grand-grand-etc child, the cute brown bear from Papo  
These three make me smile, whenever I look at them

Some details :
He has the most wonderful paws

Muscles like a body builder on drogs

The face is very deteiled. The designer must had a lot of fun making it

There are some lines on the left side. If it is in the mould or if Bear has lied on some uneven materieal while he was still hot, I do not know
But it is really not visible untill you go as close as these pictures

Very nice photos. It's interesting that there's less texture to it than the Schleich--but the face is a marked improvement.

Also, there are other notable ones (plus a few other less notable ones) to compare to!

But both are way smaller...and it appears that sculptors have a hard time being creative with them! Except Bully, but it's so small!

I adopted my own cave bear last week.
He is truly amazing; Rare species, stong build, dynamic pose, detailed paws and face, good colours.
I say i am writing him down for candidate for figure of the year contest.

Since I saw this model on the stock photo, I am in love and it is one of the models from this year, which are on top of my wish list.
I really like the sculpt of this bear, with this dynamic pose, great details ...real Papo piece :)

These so ``strange``lines on the left side of the model, we can see them also on the stock photo ... ...which is strange. But why are they there ...? It looks a bit like printed 3D model ...

And of course on the stock photo, the colors make the model even more nice, but that is normal.
Over all, I love it !

I also got mine and I have the same felling with this, a printed 3D model ... but what a great movement ! It is also a great sculpture !

Well, my initial expectations to this figure are very similar with what Kosta wrote. I liked a lot the pose since the official figure and I think it is also a very good figure to use in dioramas.
I agree with you, Susanne, that it is a bonus that this prehistoric bear figure doesn't look like any extant bear. It turns the figure more distinctive. I think also it goes correctly with what 3d animations show about the species. I think that the only thing I don't like is the texture, maybe a real contact with it may change my opinion. A great figure, much nicer than the precedent Schleich and thank you for so useful pictures.

Wonderful model and I'm still waiting to get mine-it seems to be hard to get at the moment in the UK.

It's great that the jaw part isn't glued on likes previous roaring lion and tiger. It's a pity Papo glued the opened jaw before and does anybody know the reason? technique or/and cost consideration?

Great walk around pictures Susanne. I absolutely LOVE this figure. I think it has a lot of scientific accuracy and its quite unlike the morphology of the modern Brown Bear.

Beautiful sculpture, a vintage touch', there is a soul inside this one I love when Papo is at his best and there is no doubt it is with this cave bear.
