| This is the National Wildlife Federation-branded koala that was released at Dairy Queen restaurants. It is part of a group of animals that attach to bases representing different continents: brown bear (North America), jaguar (South America), wolverine (Europe), African elephant (Africa), giant panda (Asia), koala (Australia), and emperor penguin (Antarctica). They are copyrighted 1996. Please note two things: - I received this figure secondhand so there is no base to go with it. - I repainted the mouth and lower edge of the nose, so the mouth differs slightly from the original (not pictured) design. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] He seems most content with extra food around: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]with the Mojo emu, Safari toob koalas, and Science and Nature echidna... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]...and the NWF bear and jaguar: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]...and that rounds out my trio of DQ NWF animals. _________________ - Andy

| Cool to see some other figures. I came across the Wolverine at a garage sale once--I was pretty excited, since this was before Bully, Schleich or Safari made theirs!
And of course it's also missing its base.
Nice to know what the other members of the set are! _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! | Susanne, thanks for your comments. I'm happy I finally made some pictures of these to share. Sean, that's the most exciting way to find an animal figure- always unexpected. If you have a chance someday it would be great to see a photo again. Based on the group pic from jarda [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], it looks like it has a nice paint job similar to the bear. The missing koala base doesn't bother me- the two Americas are more interesting simply because they can display as geographic neighbors. _________________ - Andy

It would be interesting to see all of the bases together! | Thanks for the photo! It adds to the topic. It looks like the wolverine easily holds its own alongside the more recent interpretations. _________________ - Andy

It's very close in design and style to the Bully and Safari especially! _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! | Sean, thanks for recovering the wolverine picture. I used the chance to relocate it back on SUy rarities. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] mentions that these figures were manufactured by Toy Major. I'd love to use your pictures at Toy Animal Wiki, if possible, but I don't know if they should have their own page or if they should be introduced together with other Toy Major series. |

| Roger, looking closer on the base for the bear, it does say copyright "1996 T.M. Am. D.Q. Corp., Mpls., MN". I had overlooked the T.M. assuming it was for "trademark" but that is usually abbreviated without periods. On the bear figure itself, however, NWF is the only entity mentioned. _________________ - Andy

| 4 years ago I asked NWF about these figurines origin. Here is the answer:
"The company that provided those plastic figurine went out of business in 2008, taking all of their stock and catalogs with them. The only figurines we have available now are made of resin." |
