| What a fantastic story- I'm so so glad that you managed to get these Southlands figures- and amazing that you now have the complete collection! These models are wonderful, so realistic, it's such a shame that this brand will no longer be with us! I should hurry with the Dingo- it's such a beauty and I'm sure will be so rare when stocks run out! Definitely worth the wait, I'm so glad there was a happy ending with these models! |

| Thank you everyone! It was really a tragedy to hear the news of the company and our friend Jason, and a swift kick in the backside for me to finally pull the trigger on getting them. I totally agree Roger, if anyone wants the models now you have to get them YESTERDAY before they are gone and cost a fortune. And they are well worth the money anyway, Jason and Anna made supremely stunning figures. They are true gems! I got real lucky to grab what I needed, especially the thylacoleo. HUGE thanks again to Andreas for your help. Very happy with them all! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. Its possible! I was aware of the sea going freight and was told it may take 3 months to arrive. I had this package of Southlands shipped at the end of December, another single figure shipped on the 6th of January (still waiting for it to show up), and then Beatrice's package was shipped beginning of February. The last arrived first, the first just arrived, and the single figure is on the slow boat from Germany (and the tracking hasn't been working on it unfortunately). _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. - Today was a very special day! I have waited 2 months to share these. I ordered some special models back in December and they just showed up today!
When I heard Southlands was not producing anymore models it broke my heart. I depserately wanted these amazing models but they were somewhat difficult to find a retailer closer to home and when I would decide to grab a few the ones I had decided on they were out of stock! I had dreamed of the marsupial lion and red kangaroo but was thwarted several times in getting them myself. So I had only gotten a chance to get a few, the dingo, tasmanian devil, and diprotodon. Each was a masterpiece and I knew I needed the rest so... the desperate search began. I was able to get nearly all from Mini Zoo and they arrived quickly from such a long journey! My brumby mare and foal have warped legs and I'll have to fix them but each model from the stallion to the tiny platypus were remarkable. However, the store was missing 4 of arguably the biggest must haves of the set... the red kangaroo buck, perentie, thylacine and thylacoleo. I was heartbroken.
I scoured the internet further and found a German site with nearly all. But they wouldn't ship to the US... enter my savior, the great Andreas! I conversed with the owner some and was happy I could get 3 of the 4, but they said they didn't have the thylacoleo. I asked if they could triple check and then Andreas helped me purchase the figures... and somehow I lucked out! The owner found one last marsupial lion in storage! I was so elated!
Then the looooooong wait began... I knew it would take some time, but got so worried. Paranoia set in. Then this morning, a battered box arrived... I had a mini heart attack fearing they may have gotten broken! But my fears were quickly sated. The models were just fine and remarkable! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Now my Southlands collection is complete. And I'd like to share an ENORMOUS THANK YOU to Andreas for his assistance!!!
Now I am just waiting on one last German package... Wonderful! The Southlands are alle masterpieces. It's really a pity, that they didn't make it. I also saved several models for my collection. I hope, that they can start again, when the worldwide situation is going better. |

| Thank you! I think it would be a dream for Southlands to come back... especially that monster salt water crocodile that was being worked on... Last few additions at least until my special package arrives... grrrr... At the end of December I grabbed a few of the retiring Papo figures I had slacked on. I have waited to share them as I am waiting on one last to show up as I have mentioned these last few days, but alas it hasn't arrived quite yet and I got tired of waiting to show these. These polar bears are just stupendous.... and recently with a good discount going I couldn't resist a good Safari run! I caught up on some toobs I've been dying to add, (nearly) the last few sharks I needed, and of course that maned wolf needed to travel here ASAP! Good thing his legs are so long. The trip was fast. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here we have the updated Cryptids toob which I will likely do a comparison thread of later with the older and less detailed painting one, the Great Lakes toob with the awesome salamander and sturgeon , and then the excellent South America toob. The jaguar is a really good sculpt but very poor paintjob... the rest like the arapaima are lovely. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And last, a few thrift finds and some cursed missing TAW/ models from ebay that implored me to buy them... I think I might be cursed on the Breyer proud arabian foal I need. I have found the black spotted appy and now this red sorrel and not the dapple that I need to go with his parents. But the mould itself is so cute dangit! A New Ray paint horse and a near mint Schleich bull to show the original finish compared to my well loved one. Then I found an ebay listing for these fur seals so now I have nearly all the AAA seals. And lastly, I have never seen the AAA macaw in this color so I couldn't pass it up. I will submit photos for TAW soon. Isn't he handsome? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]_________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Thank you my friend! I personally do really like the maned wolf and feel that this rare attempt at a rare animal should be applauded despite personal taste. I have been suggesting any wild canid (or even a toob of them) besides a red fox and gray wolf to this company for years now so I won't look a gift maned wolf in the mouth! I reviewed it a bit more in detail in Susanne's great walkaround, but I feel that it is a great model. CollectA made a nice one too, but I don't see why there can't be two handsome longlegged canines around for collectors. I plan on doing a review on the Animal Toy Blog, but maybe I will do a comparison here also sometime... I've been waiting on my special package to come too (obviously I am getting antsy!)! He should be lumbering in any day now... I hope. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Fantastic new additions, I am also most curious about the Safari black panther, a blue review would be really great! Is the AAA macaw a variation over this mould? I'm looking forward to see a picture from above and obviously to put it on TAW. |

| Thank you everybody! Yes Roger that is the mould! I knew there were 2 different scarlet paint jobs, one more blended like the first photo there and then mine with bolder swatches of paint. But I had never seen this blue and gold macaw version so... TAW told me I couldn't pass it up. And honestly that is one reason I love AAA. It has some goofy figures (using a generic fawn for an antelope AND a deer? Poor choice...) but they also have some great mysterious gems too. I for sure will do a walk around with some leopard friends for everyone. :) From the "seal" series I am missing these: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I will definitely be making an ATB review soon, just a few things I have to complete first. Thanks Bonnie. :) I fear to think about my collection too far into the future as for the inevitability of it getting so big and perhaps having to give some up... but as I've said before maybe I will just open a museum of sorts. And thank you Andreas and Adam! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | After a month long wait here are some new additions. First off a trade with spacelab (thank you so much!) I got some really excellent new models of Happy Kin and Nayab, including some new canines which of course is exciting for me. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Finally started to see some new Schleich around so I couldn't leave the Sorraia stallion behind! And I finally gave in and got the Knabstrupper stallion and foal and the bug eyed fennec. My long awaited Papo elephant seal got lost in the mail so I had to reorder it (fine since he has a new happy kin friend from Greece), and some other Papos tagged along including the marvellous pyrenees, the squirrell Bonnie convinced me I needed, and a barn owl to help my Safari model not be lonely. Then I happened across some thrift finds including the k&m bison, new ray black bear to finish my trio, handsome unknown work horse, safari toob dingo, unknown dolphin etc. Etc. And then Blaine, curse you , strong armed me into some innovative kids butterflies to finish that set also! I do not generally collect insects and relatives but the blue morpho was a childhood obsession when I Iearned about them in a book and who can say no to a monarch?
