| Came across these figures on eBay, Wild Wraps, by Safari LTD. Interestingly they were released in 1997 but I was previously unfamiliar with them. They have bendable appendages and are intended to be 'wrapped' around things, such as a bicycle frame, backpack, or a child's arm. I picked up four arthropods: the tarantula, praying mantis, purple shore crab (a new species, albeit not a really great representation), and the Indian oakleaf butterfly (for which I thought the Kabaya figure was unique!). Anyone else have experience with these? Maybe [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] are familiar with them? I don't normally alter figures (I do not correct scientific mistakes) but I will cut the extensions off the butterfly (as I would straps or key chains from some figures), as they are too long and obtrusive. The mantis and tarantula legs are also a bit long, but it's easier to accept those. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| I believe nobody is familiar with these wild wraps but we never know. I don't know what is more surprising, if the concept or the animals chosen. |

I meant to point out, there are several other animals. I only got four of the arthropods (there was a dragonfly, too, that I didn't get). Remember in the late 1990s companies were not afraid to make unusual species, at least until again recently ;-) Surprised they have not popped up on our forum yet, since they came out so long ago. I wonder if they were retired quickly |

| I saw those too and never even knew they existed until looking at them on eBay. They must not have been in production very long. I've followed and gotten animals from Safari LTD for years and honestly don't recall ever seeing these! |

| WONDERFUL !!! And some even have tags No, I never heard of them before ! Do you remember which others there were ? Are they marked with Safari ? The tags do not seem to be marked Safari, or is it on the other side ? I do not have any catalogues from the late 90's, but in the one from 2003 they are not shown. |

I do not have any catalogues from the late 90's, but in the one from 2003 they are not shown. The tags and the figures are both marked Safari, with their Florida address on the tags. A quick search on eBay revealed these other animals: sea horse, koala, bush baby, dragonfly, python, chameleon, mandrill, panther, common agama, manta ray, poison dart frog. Depending on the critter, different body parts are elongated for 'wrapping'. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
