The sculpt is a mini version of a very famous horse in Breyer's history, he's by one of the best sculpting artists in the world so it's no surprise you find the horse to be appealing even if the colour's not the best on him!
Here's a link telling a bit about the original large-scale mould, and how he was broken (deliberately!) after just one batch.
And while I
totally agree that the paint finish on this one isn't great - I never do like these extremely pearly or metallic coats on any but the unusual breeds which have them in real life - maybe you might like him a little better if you know the strange colouring itself isn't technically bad or wrong : a white or grey body with a vivid ginger mane and tail is something which
can happen
It's known as mulberry grey, and is a stage in the greying process of certain colour horses as they age. Mane and tail hairs take longer to grow through than the smooth body fur which sheds twice a year, so often those will be a much darker shade than the rest of the coat. On a horse which started black or bay, that leaves the much more familiar dark grey-looking mane against a dappled or pale neck. But on one which started out a brown, tan, or gingery colour, the long mane and tail hairs will have those lovely auburn shades.
It's fairly rare, so most of the photos in an image search are either painted models, drawings, or shots from some sort of computer game, but you can see real-life examples here, here, and here.
I've painted several in this colour over the years, and for the one which turned out to be my favourite of them, I chose the exact mould Breyer then used when they released this model, it amused me when they came out with the same mould-and-colour combination I'd already decided would be pretty
