| I would rule out all except the Thorold's deer and the Barasingha.
Sika deer - the antlers are too curved and with too long branches Thorold's deer - very good match due to the white muzzle Barasingha - really the best match in antler shape Red deer - too small antlers too curved, with too short branches basally Père David's deer - no way, this species's antlers are unmistakable with two main branches of equal lenght, a long tail, and a black strip along back Sambar - no, the antlers are too curved for a species that have a very straight antlers. And the branches are very short. Also, too many branches _________________ My collection:- (Details):

| It seems that the Sika Deer, a somewhat unlikely option, is in the lead. I should probably tell everyone not to trust the catalog IDs to make this less biased. The Capra sp. is based on a drawing of a Bezoar Ibex despite being ID’d as an Alpine Ibex. The wild hog had a pretty generic ID, “boar”. It’s a Giant Forest Hog. And the flying wader bird that is ID’d as a Siberian Crane has black primaries and secondaries like a White Stork, whereas the real Siberian Crane has black primaries only, with white secondaries. |

| The antlers were stated (by Pardofelis) to be the most like those of a Barasingha (close-set antlers with long, curly points at the end and on each a straight middle portion without any points). For my own vote, because the Barasingha can also have a lighter muzzle and a tan patch under the eye like the figure (no photos of Thorold’s Deer show such a tan patch, to my knowledge) and because the shape of the antlers are usually quite an important identification character, I would conclude that this is a Barasingha. | Indeed, Barasingha seems a good choice to me. |

| I also judge more based on sculpt and antlers and tail are the most important features to distinguish a deer. Fur color is quite variable seasonally in some species and it is more variable when we are talking about a Nayab figure that is sold by loads of different brands and with different quality painting. Thus, my vote also goes for barasinga and it is a surprise actually. |

| Exactly. I would’ve liked to say that the shape of the antlers is a more important identifying feature than colors. |

| I voted for Thorold's deer as I think the body type fits better. Thorold's deer seems heavier built and has thicker legs in proportion to its body. Barashinga has more elongated proportions and extremely thin-looking legs. But it's just a thought. I agree that the antlers look more like those of Barashinga _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| It’s official. The ToyAnimal.info page for this deer must now be changed from Sika Deer to Thorold’s Deer. |
