| Almost 3 weeks ago I won two retired Papos at Ebay France. I payed immediately with payPal, so when more than a week went, I began to wonder where they were. After 2 weeks I contacted the seller, but got no reply, darned! I thought. Do I have to go through a huge fight now ? A second attempt to the seller also gave no reaction even if I tried both English, my horrible School-French and just as horrible Google-French Then I had other things on my mind, but regularly thought that about where they were And then, this morning the mail lady brought them The retired bison and the retired deer, both marked 2003 The bison is wonderful, but the huge surprise was the deer !!!!!! His antlers are glued on !!! Here, first, the wonderful bison : [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]But look at the deer ! He is so strange that I really, really adore him [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Even Schleich can`t compete making a figuere that is SO funny ! I LOVE that deer |

| Many congratulations susanne! The bison is very nice and the deer is really strange but beautiful! :reindeer: Very Papo style, spread back legs and, small head and those spots?!?! Surely an European red deer with its summer coat! Isn't it??? :) And it is the third figure of woodland and I think that it was only two years in catalogue! Fantastic catch! :) ...and fantastic photos too! |

| Congratulations Susanne, that was very strange they took so long to get to you but at least they're here now So the deer, have the antlers broken off and someone has glued them back on, or were they made like that? _________________ Harriet My *Collection* My *Handmade Animal Sculpture*

Thankyou, Christophe, you are always so kind I will remember next time, French is difficult, and the little I know is terribly rusty - Roger wrote:

I wonder about those spots also !!! As far as I know adult red deer do not have spots ? Fallow deer do, but the antlers look more like those of a Virginia deer Funny thing is that it does not have spots in the 2004-catalogue - baltimore zoo wrote:

Thankyou, Harriet, yes, I wonder where the parcel has been. The address was clear and easy to read. The antlers were made that way! They are also glued on in the picture in Torben`s site It seems they used a lot of glue in the first animals |

Yes, Christophe! I don't know other catalogues and I think this deer was only available 2 years, anyway it looks they painted the figure like the female in 2004 catalogue than they noticed that it was a male, glued the horns and we have a travesty! :reindeer: Those spots were perfect for a fallow deer but I can't see nothing more that could makes me think of it. The horns of fallows are very important to be not respected as they are. And the very small tail makes you understand clearly that it is not a Virginia. But where is the beard of a red deer??? There are some beardless in Spain, very very confuse, unless for me! Susanne, it looks you have a special deer! |

No,no Susanne! I'm not saying that he is a female, I'm only saying that it is a male with a dress like a female, don't you agree? See it in 2004 Papo catalogue! :) There's no fallow deers in modern brands unfortunately, are very nice for collectors and also for children, are really beautiful!!! But Kiki, some time ago, showed some from his collection! :) |

And speaking about Papo... papo his having their own style and sometimes I don´t like them... but... congratulations for your new items. Bison is really good. I have this one too Martin, remember that those are from the first year of the brand! Deer and bison were already replaced! ...and in Papo every figures get better from the first to second generation! With Schleich the evolution is slower or involution! You see also with CollectA that the second lion is much better than the first while in Schleich the second lion is better than the third! Maybe the Papo bison is one of the figures where the evolution is not too big! :) Damage seeing brands with a lot of experience in the market not having the best figures of the market! Schleich bison, is the worst I know, don't you agree???? |

Safari and Bullyland I don't know! Anyway I don't really like the Schleich bison! The worst I know is not a definitive opinion as the worst of ever! Ah, Martin , IMHO the Schleich cape buffalo is the worst of the 3 I know and I love him even I don't have it! :) |

Well, I think the old is a Wood bison, you can see it seeing if the hump is squared. If the hump is rounded so it is a plains! I think the new one is a plains but its pose turns not easy to see the hump and Balty says that it looks more like a Wood! The fantastic CollectA American bison is clearly a plains, it's easy to identify a figure that respects the characteristics of a subspecies! :) |
