As soon as I knew Schleich were releasing a crossbreed featuring a golden retriever I was very excited to see it in real life! I think this is a really interesting model, as it is the first time Schleich have released a cross-breed dog officially named and in their main dog series! They had their previous mixed breed farm dogs but not specifying which breeds they were a mixture of. They also had the User Voted Animal Maltese-Shih Tzu mix, and little Maltipoo from the puppy play set, but these were more exclusive releases! So this is definitely an interesting new development for the dog figure world, and definitely representative of the amazing increase in popularity of these poodle crossbreeds over the last few years! Here are some photos! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Hello! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Designed in Germany, made in Portugal [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Comparison from left to right: Schleich Maltipoo, Schleich Shih Tzu- Maltese mix, Schleich Golden Retriever (smaller), Schleich Goldendoodle, Schleich 1:12 Golden Retriever [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I think I was mostly quite pleased with this model. I'm not against the idea of crossbreeds at all, only that it has encouraged lots of puppy farmers/ unscrupulous breeders to sell these popular dogs raised in dreadful conditions for extremely high prices. The model itself is obviously very typical of Schleich dogs these days, with a focus on cuteness and surprisingly small, probably to save on costs. It seems to be less realistic than Schleich's golden retriever at the same scale, and this was from 2014, so it seems this change in style has been quite recent. But considering it is harder to include as much detail on a smaller model I think the woolly texture has been done as well as it could have been, and the general characteristics of the breed have been done very well, it looks very recognisable as a goldendoodle! However compared to previous Schleich dogs it has more of a mass-produced feel about it, the mould lines are a little too obvious and the material is more bendable than previous dogs. I also felt the body was slightly elongated, but maybe it was just an active athletic goldendoodle! Anyway, he is still very lovable and I would be interested to hear your views on this model, I am happy with any goldie cross and I still want to say a big thank you to Schleich!

I am so happy of seeing this topic from you with so nice pictures, comparisons and comments. I added a link on TAW to this walk around. To be honest, I don't find a huge excitment about crossbreeds but I think it is a kind of prejudice or whatever it is called, in the end, all breeds result from crossing other breeds, I guess. I think also, it is quite innovative from Schleich. We are constantly complaining they make the same breeds over and over and here is something nobody released before. I like the model, it is not a masterpiece but also not irritating cute as my fennec. Good idea showing it with the other breeds. I think the first time I've read about the place where a figure was designed was on a Mojö Fun figure, it is an interesting marketing strategy, I think it is not mandatory as the place it is manufactured. Nice to see that Maia & Borges continues manufacturing figures to Schleich, the best factory in the world.

We should've known that the first to introduce this model would be you, Bonnie! Interesting to see how it scales with your similar breeds, and how the styles have changed over the years. I think the 1:12 version is my favourite, that serious earnest face, and the softeness caused round the eyes and mouth from the airbrushing. It's not surprising they've gone for one of these named crossbreeds, they seem to be among the most popular dogs around, now, in the UK at least. At least the name isn't too awkward or cringe-worthy, some of them seem to be chosen specifically for sounding embarrassing or rude, poor dogs. I still see nothing wrong with the word 'cross' when something's mixed from two purebreds, if I ever owned one I'd be stubbornly calling it 'golden retriever cross poodle' or 'poodle cross labrador' to anybody who asked, but perhaps that's cos I'm so used to horses where you generally say both breeds in full for clarity and abbreviate the spoken 'cross' with an x in writing (like my horse is, and would only ever be, defined as a new forest x welsh C, not a 'welshforest' or a 'newcee' )

| Not a huge fan of these dogs in real life, but this model is very well done! Thank you for sharing Bonnie. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | How delightful to see this great walkaround from you, dear Lilias Beautyful photos, great comparison picture And now I learned that the puppy from the set is a Maltipoo ! Of course !!! I love this model, and am very pleased to see Schleich making both a cross-bred, a sighthound ( which is NOT a greyhound ! ), and a bullterrier My old Siggi was a crosbred, and seemed to have inherited all the good and a couple of irritating traits from all his ancestors,...the result was A LOT of dog, and never ever a a visit to the vet untill he got extremely old. Using poodles to make crossbreds, however, has the serious drawback that it seems some of them have a fur which people can't handle, and the poor critters suffer from a panser of hard, filted hair, which can be full of fleas, dirt ( of the worst kind) , eczema, etc. But except for the fur, those are two wonderful breeds, and we see these crosses with lot of versatile talents, for instance in agility |

Thank you so much Roger, Andreas, George, Paige and Susanne for your kind words! [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Would certainly agree there, it's not a masterpiece but not a Fennec or Bengal cat so for that I am very grateful! And I didn't know that they used the factory from Maia & Borges, that is interesting! And very innovative definitely, it will be interesting to have some new 'breeds' on the market if they continue to do this! I wonder whether they'll start to make snap-together animals with two dog breeds, I hope not! [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I couldn't resist with this goldie cross! As I said on the other topic I completely agree, that goldie is my favourite of this breed in plastic and possibly my favourite plastic dog ever made- that face is unbeatable and so similar to the real dog! Oh yes, some of the names given to crossbreeds these days just seem to be there so the breed sells well, poor dogs, must be very humiliating. And as you say, at least with crossbred horses they have some sense and don't make a mockery of their names! [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Oh yes, I almost forgot the little maltipoo too! But when I made this topic I remembered reading somewhere in the packaging that this was its breed! I am exactly the same, so pleased with Schleich's releases, especially Fidda's favourite, the Afghan, it's a real improvement compared to previous Schleich dogs! Completely agree about crossbreeds too, it seems a lottery whether the good genes or bad genes will be inherited- you could end up with the best aspects from both dogs, or the worst. But Siggi is a wonderful example of the perfect crossbreed!
