As a big Fan of Bullterriers I had to get this new Bully by Schleich. This time it is a female and I think I like her. I bought two of this Bully for repainting one. By pure chance I had this old Bullterrier by Bully ( ) for comparison.

Oh, I got confused with the Bully from Bully. I think the model is quite recognizable to the breed and it is the first time Schleich released this breed for their range, I guess. Besides the major brands, I think New-Ray also released a quite decent model. thanks for showing your new Bully, a fresh new model.

Thank you Roger! It was a lucky hit I found this Bully by Bully ( ) in my box as a reference for the new Bully. I think too Schleich did a pretty good job with this dog. I have to check for the Bully by New Ray....

Lovely comparison Papo also made a lovely Bull terrier model, and Cillecta made a pair, which are nice too . Bull terriers are ever so lovely dogs if you know how to handle them, and I love the way they "smile" at you But again, being bred somewhat extreme , they have problems with their health, and not a very long life expectancy I do NOT understand that so many people keep breeding dogs for looks and not for health, and even worse : That the show judges give them medals for it _________________ SUSANNE

She's lovely!! Your photos are so perfect too that the model looks even better than in the official picture, and the lighting is really nice, it highlights the detail in the sculpt and Schleich seem to have done a much better job than I previously thought! It's definitely recognisable as the breed, bull terriers are fantastic dogs! That's a wonderful idea to have bought another to repaint as well, because I think what lets this model down is the way it is painted with the smiley face and quite simple brown and white- but a talented artist like you could make it look amazing! Wonderful to see this new dog, thank you so much for sharing her with such good photos!

At first I considered it, and then I didn't because it looks like it has that 'Schleich smirk' on its face. Then I studied pictures of the breed and they really do look like that!!! Oh well, probably a pass.

They are such naturally smiley-looking dogs, perhaps the sculptor was trying to emphasise and capture that side of them (or was specifically asked to make sure it showed in the model, 'we'd like it to look smiley and happy, not scary and tough', when they're a breed with a mixed reputation), and the result just looks over the top - a cartoony smile-with-the-mouth rather than in a way a dog really uses it's facial muscles and lips. _________________

Even if they do not look much alike, he bull terrier is often confused with the Staffordshire bull terrier, which can be scary and tough as adult if not socialiced when young. As far as I know, the bull terrier is more gentle and playful than for instance a cocker spaniel or dachshound _________________ SUSANNE |

Oh yes, I've known them and they're lovely soppy friendly dogs, and I think most animal lovers would know that too. I hope you didn't think I'm one to believe the negativity! They just have that tough-guy's-dog reputation in general pop culture, at least here. Possibly with encouragement from Oliver Twist adaptations, cos the bad guy's dog is always played by one. And often you see the violent, gang-type characters in modern things with a status 'tough' dog, either Staffie or Bull Terrier. The trend is definitely to those breeds these days, rather than the old fashioned idea of an aggressive guard dog being a German Shepherd or Doberman. It's not the breed at fault at all, it's the people who raise individual dogs wrong cos it's 'cool' to have a tough intimidating dog, and then the whole breed gets a bad name without deserving it, and everyone else picks up on the reputation and casts them as a Bad Dog on screen, and that only strengthens the myth that they're all dangerous. So I can imagine parents giving kids warnings about not going near them cos they're mean-tempered or bite, or their owners might punch you for looking at them And that would prompt the companies to make sure they gave the opposite impression, and make sure the figures look happy and gentle and family-pettish, so those same protective parents who don't trust 'scary' dogs wouldn't get that vibe from the model ones. _________________

@Roger Absolutely agree, and the CollectA beagle completely proves that! Dogs are naturally cute and don't need to be exaggerated, and they managed this with the Afghan to an extent which seems much more natural but this model was surprisingly different in style! And the Fennec! Completely agree, if they had made this model realistically it would have been even cuter I think, they certainly are one of the animals which naturally fit that style! @George Yes, that does make sense, they are the most wonderfully friendly dogs now with gorgeous personalities but especially here in the UK they have had a mixed history thanks to cruel animal-based blood sports and people breeding them to be more and more aggressive. Thankfully that is a thing of the past now and the bull terriers of today are delightful, but I can see how the smiley face would keep those over-protective parents happy. Poor dog!

| Its not my favorite one ever made but it is a nice model nonetheless. When I customized a model years ago, coincidentally, I did the same color. I will take that as a compliment from Schleich. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs.
