- Great to see these, thanks for the photos! I'll slowly put them onto TAW (will take some time). TAW lists a Berkshire pig with piglets, but the pig in the first photo is clearly not a Berkshire.
That is the Britains Berkshire pig with piglets. Another case of Britains getting it wrong. I don't think I have ever seen it in a different colour to be honest. I just found out that the original Berkshires were sometimes spotted: https://www.berkshirepigs.org.uk/the-club/history-of-berkshire-pigs/ Interesting, we sometimes forget that these models were made 100 years ago and breeds have changed since then. I would also imagine that photographs of animals would have been less common and perhaps models were sculpted from drawing or paintings. Look how animals were painted 100-200 years ago. |

Thanks! I suppose the flying tail broke off easily. Interestingly, they went back to the flying tail when they made the bull in plastic. |

| Thanks a lot! This guessing game is good fun for me, but they did make it complicated by using the same number for different sculpts! Thanks for the goats, they look lovely. |

Hi Scott, Would you be able to help me identify these chickens? Are there any websites that help? Thanks! The British Poultry Standards recognise 93 pure chicken breeds - here are some images that will help in the identification: https://poultrykeeper.com/chicken-breeds/ _________________ Chris |

| Thanks, that's a great overview of chicken breeds. Are there any websites that match the Britains lead models to the catalogue numbers? |

| Britains didn't give these names just assigned the word fowl to them. They also changed the colours and kept the catalogue number pre & post war In this pic we have #516 Speckled Fowl #517 White Fowl #518 Yellow Fowl #517 & #518 where prewar numbers after which just #516 was used for all the colours they used. #544 Chicks, 3 types, running, pecking & flapping wings #545 Sitting Hen |

| Very old chickens, who could guess these figures would be treasured for such a long time. |

| Let's see, I am still quite confused. Is this the hen? The cock? The fowl? Or the hen? The same cock from a different angle? The hen without spots from a different angel? And which one is this? |

| The chickens can be confusing as they had numbers for different colours, pre & post war, then grouped them for post war. The ducks were listed as one catalogue number but called ducks and drakes but we never knew which was which. You are correct on the chickens, Britains never classed them as cocks and hens they just called them fowl. The hen that is pecking is #660 Prize Poultry Feeding. (they made hens and cocks but just called them poultry) The sheep are both the same catalogue number the slender one is the 1st version. |

| Thank you, Scott. The difficulty is that TAW has a list of all (?) Britains farm animals and I am trying to match your photos to this list. I don't know where the TAW list came from or whether it is always correct. I have now changed it to: 516 Fowl 1946 1959 Post war grouping of various fowl 516 Speckled Fowl 1921 1941 Grouped together with other fowl as # 516 post war 517 White Fowl 1921 1941 Grouped together with other fowl as # 516 post war 518 Yellow Fowl 1921 1941 Grouped together with other fowl as # 516 post war Hope this makes sense. Do you know what #585 was? TAW just says "Britains lead". |
