Observations/Thoughts:
Schleich are good with their elephant models, from what I’ve seen all of them are really huge, hefty lumps, which they should be considering they are the biggest land animals in nature. I was genuinely surprised in seeing the elephants in person, they’re really heavy and have details like skin folds, roughness, wrinkles, all the things’ elephants do have, and in the case of Ashanti, the nipples under her forearms. Who knew elephants have them there…?
I shouldn’t be surprised really, as Schleich are known for their realism with their animal models…
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Nelson, the African Elephant has his trunk raised and his mouth open, a great pose, but one that you might only see in the wild if an elephant was charging? Some cultures consider the pose with the trunk raised as lucky.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Ashanti however is far more realistic in her pose, just typically standing there with her trunk lowered, not a very dynamic pose, but more realistic.

Smooth? Rubbery looking? Extra smooth? Maybe it’s because he’s an older model, and a different brand but he’s not rough and wrinkly like the elephants, he’s smooth and shiny looking. He’s not in a charging pose, but with one foot forward, I guess it’s the general walking pose. He’s still a great chunky piece, there’s weight and bulk to him and is a good model if you’re looking for a rhino.
Rating: Nelson the African Elephant – 5/5
Ashanti the Asian Elephant- 4/5
