| I didn't intend to collect all this stuff- horses were enough :) But one day, as I was buying some new Schleich horse, my father offered me to take the tiger as well. "Look at him, he's so gorgeous!" he said. And so it all started... So here are some of my cats :) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Tigers Schleich tiger with the cubs [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Papo tigress with the cub and a Collecta young tiger. I really like the Papo wild cats (as well as the dinos)- they are just fabulous. I cannot really understand why do they make such poor (at times) horses. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]These two came today. I couldn't pass by as I saw them in shop (I just wanted to buy a loaf of bread, yes..) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Collecta panter. Has a great pose. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Papo lioness with the cub. Maybe I started to collect them because of my love to G. Martin's "Song of fire and Ice" series, and direwolves, mentioned there. A Papo wolf. But Papo DOES make some wonderful horses also...even if I really, seriously did not want to collect them, I totally fell for them when first I had a few Have you seen the new Icelandic horse for instance ? SUSANNE Well, I've seen the Icey on promos only, but for me he's far too similar with the Safari's one.

Only he is a mare I will take a picture of them together tomorrow if the weather permits. They are really very different types of horse, it is only the colour that is ( supposed to be) the same |

I'm waiting for the photo then) Iceland horse is one of my favourite breeds. It's great many manufactures started doing them. Hope to see another one (in different mould) from Safari. |

| As the weatherman had predicted, it is nasty weather today with thunder and lightning, rain and hail , not good weather for taking pictures. But I made a try during one of the breaks in the rain Here the Icelandic mare from Papo : [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Tölt does not come easy to this mare because of the way she is built. Her tölt is short and stiff, because her back is a bit too short, making her scared of stepping on her front leg with her hind leg. Her behind a bit too high, and her loin is not slanting enough to make it easy for her to get the swing of a good, smooth tölt. The rider is pulling her head up high to try giving her shoulder the freedom to lift. It may work for a while, but any rider knows that with her head there you have no controll over her and eventually her mouth will become hard as a log There used to be many of those kind of Iceys in Denmark, because when first a real import of icelandic horses to Europe started in early 20th century, it was horses for farmwork and for driving. But there is still a need for them. They are often nice, calm familyhorses and good for a wonderful, relaxed ride in nature. A funny detail is that Icelandic top-riders tend to avoid roan horses. Originally they were mainly bred in an area in the north of Iceland, where they were used as pack-horses. So the Icelanders used to connect roan colour with horses not suited for riding The stallion from Safari is quite another matter. He goes world class tölt, and his rider must be a world class rider [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]To see a roan Icey going like this is still very rare. As the roan colour is very popular outside Iceland, some years ago the Icelandic farmer`s horse breeding advisors promised a huge prize to the first one who got a roan stallion judged as a first class stud horse. As far as I know, nobody won the prize, but it probably helped raise the average quality of roan iceys [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]In Denmark some 50 years ago, before the strict control of breeding stallions, a roan stallion was imported. Because of his colour a lot of mares were served by him. This was a catastrophy, becase his temper was very bad, and his offspring often inherited it. Some were downright dangerous In Iceland such horses end on the dinner table, but not here ! As nobody liked to ride the mares, they were used for breeding This was an example of how NOT to breed colours , and good roan horses are still very, very hard to find here. Here are more iceys : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Sorry for babbeling on again-again |

| Thank you very much for this info about the roan Iceys. I've seen one in Norway, or Finland (don't remember exactly), he was fantastic. But his owned said it's a common colour for the Icelandic horse.
And are there many Icelandic horses in Denmark? When I visited your country, I saw a number of shaggy cuddly horses, but I'm not sure it was that breed.
As for the mare- she's very beautiful. Like her mane esp. I hope new Papo equines would appear some day in our country as well. Or Ebay will become my best friend. |

| Thank you for this information Susanne, it's extremely interesting!! it's a shame the roan colour is so rare, I love roans. I like the colour of the Papo one, the red hue to the mane and tail is nice. _________________ Harriet My *Collection* My *Handmade Animal Sculpture*

| Wow, I this is fascinating! I don't know much about Iceys, so this was all news to me. As another roan fan (with an Icelandic body in primer at the moment) I now know what color I should steer clear of! The Papo is nice though! Their horses may not be perfectly correct, but they have such personality. |
