Old composition donkey, maybe made in Mexico

My father gave this donkey to me when i was little. i named him Daniel and he's been one of my prized possessions ever since. Daniel was my father's when he was little, and his mother had given it to him, so i believe it is from no later than 1930. i think he's from Mexico, but i could be wrong. if anyone knows more about him, i'd be thrilled!
Daniel's pack is wood, with thread "harness" and his fruit is wax. The wax is rather sticky and very hard to clean. I've decided it's better to have dusty fruit than to risk damaging it. Now that he lives in a glass case, he's much happier.

It is almost a miracle that Daniel and his backpack and fruits are still so fine. And the fruits are made of wax, too, WOW!
Both you mom and you must have been looking extremely well after him, he is adorable !!!!!

Thank you Harriet, Andreas and Susanne! he is very precious to me, not merely because he is a darling little figure, but because he is such a connection to my father's memory.
donkeys are very tough: except for the cracked ear and the paint off his leg, he's almost perfect! i hope i'm in as good a shape when i'm 80 years old!

Wow! I have something Willy hasn't seen before! But not surprising since i would guess he was hand-made in Mexico, because he looks similar to other little figures from Mexico. I would guess he's actually clay over wire.

Kristie, yes, it's incredible that he's in the shape he's in. First a little boy (my father) and then a little girl (me) and he survived! Donkeys are tough!
