I am sure that these are composition models, not plastic . As far as I know, plastic was not widely used untill after World War II, - I still remember when it was considered new for dayly use, and I was borne in 1952 |

As far as I know, plastic was not widely used untill after World War II, - I still remember when it was considered new for dayly use, and I was borne in 1952 Yes, plastic toy figures didn't start until after WW2, and with the honourable exception of a small toy soldier company called 'Malleable Mouldings' circa 1947-50 and Zang/Herald (later bought out by Britains) from 1952, they were all rather crude and cartoony. Good quality moulding and paintwork plastic soldiers/animals/whatever weren't common until about 1956/7. Like Susanne, I was also born in 1952, and by the time I was old enough to play with such toys, which would have been about 1956/7, most shops were stocking plastic, but there were still a lot of lead figures too (in the UK, composition was more of a German thing). By about 1962 there were very few lead figures left, and they tended to be in the bigger, more expensive, toy shops.
